I wasn't sure where to post this, so move it if it's in the wrong section.Well, the place just got drug searched. I don't know what kind specifically. The cops weren't too in depth with what they were doing. They just informed me that they had been buying drugs there for quite some time now. So, I guess depending on what they find, if anything, the place may or may not be shutting down in the very near future. That is all...
3/12/2009 8:31:24 PM
haha damn and I never got around to trying the place
3/12/2009 8:34:00 PM
Abyssinia?Damn... That place was tasty -- I hope they don't shut down...
3/12/2009 8:39:13 PM
hah, the place was a bit sketch though.
3/12/2009 9:04:42 PM
I used to work with a girl who dated a relative of the owners. She said the food was awesome, but I never got around to trying it.
3/12/2009 9:15:49 PM
its goodonly cab drivers go there and was empty most the time.so drugs seems like why it was still open.
3/12/2009 9:25:36 PM
i went there once for lunch, probably ~2002. A basic lunch cost something like $18. It was ridiculous.... no wonder Ethiopians are so hungry
3/12/2009 9:30:49 PM
when i went, the food was fine but the service sucked balls
3/12/2009 9:32:36 PM
when I went, they had run out of food.
3/12/2009 10:11:15 PM
^ that makes it authentic. Hmm, that sucks. I always meant to try it out, but I never got around to it when I was at NCSU. Now that I'm stationed back in NC, I was gonna give it a shot.
3/12/2009 10:16:39 PM
There's no guarantee that it'll be shut down. The whole situation was pretty comical. Me and my friend had gotten there like 30 or 40 minutes prior and there were 3 other groups of people there. By the time we were served our food, it had cleared out so it was just us. Then, about 2 or 3 bites into it, the waitress came up to us and said something in broken english along the lines of "they are setting up something so I will bring you a box." We didn't really understand and were sitting there wondering what the fuck just happened. We looked over and saw a bunch of cops and one of the pointed at us then pointed toward the door. This was our first time there.

Isn't there a "grocery" store right next to the restaurant that has like 3 things on the shelf but has been able to stay in business for years?Maybe the cops got the wrong place [Edited on March 12, 2009 at 10:32 PM. Reason : f]
3/12/2009 10:31:57 PM
^ oh man, I had forgotten about that place. I think it's owned by the same people as the restaurant. My friends used to go over there to buy cigarettes whenever we were playing pool.
3/12/2009 10:40:05 PM
an ethiopian restaurant?what's on their menu, stolen UN food aid?
3/12/2009 11:07:05 PM
there's another ethiopian place in chapel hill i've heard is good, but i've never gone
3/12/2009 11:34:50 PM
I will cry if they are closed before I get back to Raleigh. Best freaking miser wat ^ That place is closed (at the very least, the building it used to be in 2 or 3 years ago is no longer in existence- they may have just moved and didn't try too hard to advertise the new address.) Not that I'm around that area anymore, but it would at least warm my heart to know the place might have to close and make way for a place with good food.I ate there once and will never have Ethiopian again. I hope their food tradition dies and is lost to posterity, because I would be horrified to learn of my descendants accidentally stepping into the clutches of an Ethiopian restaurant. That was fun. Anyway for those that like it, to each his or her own.
3/13/2009 12:24:21 AM
^Ignorant....The food there is FUCKING DELICIOUS. You clearly don't know what "good food" is.
3/13/2009 2:25:52 AM
the food there is so so. Its not perfect authentic Ethiopian, but comes close. However, for the price I can eat a damn good, well aged steak.
3/13/2009 2:50:39 AM
Last time I was there, I had wondered to myself if they weren't a front for something else.... They just had that vibe going on hardcore. I am not at all surprised by this.

Ethiopian food? what do they serve, sand? dirt?[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 9:47 AM. Reason : ]
3/13/2009 9:47:40 AM
^Most of it is injera, a spongy pancake-like sourdough flat-bread made from teff flour, with various kinds of wat, spicy stews made from onions and other vegetables, potatoes, legumes, and/or meats. Fucking delicious. (No silverware -- you tear a piece of bread and use it to eat the stew.)(obligatory: wat? yes, wat.)This photo is actually from Abyssinia Restaurant:[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 10:07 AM. Reason : ]
3/13/2009 10:07:08 AM
the food was really good but the one time I went, it took about an hour to get our food. Pretty expensive too.
3/13/2009 10:07:53 AM
^^oh, so in addition to sand and dirt they add multi-colored mud.
3/13/2009 10:48:45 AM
^dumb troll...
3/13/2009 11:38:52 AM
that's what it looks like brah. a bunch of goop.
3/13/2009 12:11:33 PM
3/13/2009 12:30:18 PM
mmm... Goop. with chunks!
3/13/2009 12:32:34 PM
mmmmmmmmmmmmm chunky ethiopian goop...
3/13/2009 12:35:22 PM
3/13/2009 12:36:22 PM
Holy shit we are not all clones... what a concept!
3/13/2009 12:46:41 PM
any other info on this?
3/13/2009 12:57:40 PM
Nope, sorry man. The cops wouldn't give us any more information. The only thing I know of is that it was a drug search. I guess we'll have to wait for some news in the paper or on tv.
3/13/2009 1:33:12 PM
I didn't know they had food in Ethiopia. Then I tried this place, and found out why Ethiopians never eat.
3/13/2009 2:36:17 PM
I'm appalled, but unsurprised, at the ignorance and idiocy in this thread
3/13/2009 4:11:39 PM
i really liked this place, takes a long time to get food though
3/13/2009 7:07:36 PM
the Haitian food I've had while in Miami was incredibly disgusting. I don't know where you've gone to experience otherwise.
3/13/2009 8:44:58 PM
haiti
3/13/2009 9:33:16 PM
^ So did you eat the mud biscuits or the cardboard smoothies
3/13/2009 11:08:02 PM
thats kind of sad to hear. i think i had my 21st birthday dinner there. maybe 20th, maybe 22nd. anyway, the vegetarian plate is freaking amazing. i want the green beans recipe, i`ll pay lol wish i had thought to get drugs there LOL
3/14/2009 1:54:46 AM
hahahai love how some people are getting all butthurt that not everyone thinks it's the most amazing food ever.fucking elitist fags.
3/14/2009 10:32:22 AM
its fun to eat stuff with your hands.also my brother lived in Ethiopia for awhile and he said they mostly eat really bad Italian food. WW2 kinda fucked the country up.
3/14/2009 10:37:25 AM
I was gonna make a crack about ppl loving the food from a place that is essentially a front for selling drugs. But then I thought of how the best Italian restaurants are mob fronts.
3/14/2009 10:41:02 AM
the food there was good.this thread is A-
