My check engine light came on last week and even before this occasionally while accelerating under load i noticed my engine would dog down for a second or two than act normal(usually in 2nd or 3rd gear when btw 3000-5000 rpm). What ever caused the check engine light to go off finally seemed to have given b.c leaving work today I found that my car was not accelerating normally. When in idle or accelerating slowly things seems fine but there is an obvious lack of power when i really hit the power. At 3000 rpm the turbo really starts to kick in and I really start moving; not though the acceleration through 3000, 4000, 5000 rpm seems nearly linear.I stopped by Auto Zone and had them check the OBD II code which gave P2243 which is a bad O2 sensor but the guy said it sounded like a malfunctioning fuel pressure regulator valve.Luckily i have an appointment to take my car to the shop Monday in Raleigh. Both Audi and AutoZone seem to think I'll be fine driving up from Wilmington this weekend; what does the garage think?Any thought also about what else it could be or how i can verify the issue.CAR: 2007 Audi A4 2.0T quattro 35000 milesThe reason i go to travel up to Raleigh is that this is the closest dealer and the repair along with my due 35000 mile tune up is covered in the original warranty. Even if the car was not drivable to Raleigh I would still have to ship my car to raleigh (free of charge) to get i worked on.

does it hesitate and bog when you go full throttle or just part throttle while cruising?

I had a truck that had the exact same symptoms. Turned out to be the in-tank fuel pump. It was a dual pump Ford setup with one in the tank and one under the chassis near the driver's door. I drove it like that for at least two years until one day I turned the key, didn't hear the fuel pump prime, and the truck wouldn't crank. Replaced it and it resolved both the inability to crank and the bogging problem.[Edited on March 12, 2009 at 11:31 AM. Reason : s]

i would start by changing your fuel filter, cheap and easy, then if that doesnt clear it up, check your fuel pressure
3/12/2009 8:44:04 PM
i don't think its the filter b.c this change in performance was not a graduate decrease. I'd say it was a dramatic oh shit wtf one afternoon driving home.

Simple things first, negros. You think it's fuel related? Get the common known variables out of the way.1. Fuel filter.2. Check fuel pressure
3/12/2009 10:04:27 PM
http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/audi/ (Audi specific codes)With all deference to the more knowledgeable among us (zxappeal and 69 especially), I think you need to double check that code first. I thought all the major O2 codes were 0 series universal codes? Shouldn't you start with the code first then? If it says O2 sensor related why are you thinking a fuel pressure problem--because a guy at AutoZone said so? Is it common on that car for a fuel pressure problem to result in an O2 code?Take it back somewhere and get the code checked again. Look at the screen and write down exactly what the code number is. Go for the obvious stuff first.[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 2:42 AM. Reason : if it says O2 sensor, why not check the O2 sensor voltages with a scantool first?]
3/13/2009 2:41:29 AM
if the engine is not getting the fuel pressure it needs, the trim will be 100% and showing lean on the oxygen sensor, where it shold be showing rich, and will set an oxygen sensor code, if the upstream sensor was bad enough to cause perfomance issues, the computer would go to a preset "limp" mapthats why its called on board diagnostic its a tool to help you troubleshoot, not tell you exactly what is wrongif your shower head was plugged up, would you change a lightbulb on the front porch? that makes about as much sense as what you are trying to do here
3/13/2009 7:23:06 AM
since there are a bunch of different types of O2 codes, would P2243 be the kind of O2 code you would get from a fuel pressure problem? serious question. I guess you would have to check the trims as you suggest.[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 10:29 AM. Reason : .]

is this car not still under warranty? why do you even care to speculate or waste your time going to parts stores? this is a silly thread, take it to the dealership and be done with it. you paid for a warranty for exactly this reason. if you require transportation in the meantime, demand a loaner.
3/13/2009 2:03:49 PM
yes it is under warranty and i have an appointment in Monday. The problem is i live in wilmington and the closest dealership with Raleigh. Technically i could get the car shipped up there free of charge. I created the thread b.c if i could limp into Raleigh it would be a lot easier to deal with. Just wanted to see what u guys thought before hitting the road and either break down or do more damage to my car by driving it 120 miles if this is a serious issue.
3/13/2009 6:59:03 PM
doesnt matter, its under warranty
3/13/2009 7:23:10 PM
how in the hell is it easier for you to "limp the car up here" vs. making a simple phone call to the worldwide/u.s. 1-800 number for audi service, the dealership, or towing company to have it transported? asking the fucking WOLF WEB whether or not it's safe to drive your car, which could have any number of minor or major problems, whether or not it's safe to drive is one of the dumber things i've seen on here in a while. "it's perfect man, you'll be just fine, go for it and let us know how it goes", lol. no matter how experienced some of us may or may not be, diagnosing anything over the internet is an educated guess at best and a stab in the dark at worst. keep posting about it though, i know you'd argue with a telephone pole if you thought it would argue back. you're at least providing some much needed entertainment in here.A+++ GARAGE THREAD[Edited on March 13, 2009 at 10:00 PM. go get it fixed and then post what the problem is. I am curious now.
3/13/2009 10:21:55 PM
mass air flow sensor is unplugged
3/15/2009 4:45:09 PM
Problem was more serious than i thought. Not sure what the cause/effect relationship is but my fuel pump has gone bad but even worse a part of my cam shaft that has to do with the fuel system was actually had chipped off due to a metelology defect from the factory where some moving parts hit. The guy pulled the part out and showed it to me and it looks like the a socket from a socket wrench set but it was obvious that it was messed up. So my car was not getting fuel pressure and driving like crap. On the highway up i was barely making speed maxing out at 75mph

sorry bro i was honestly kinda hung over with the mechanic dude was explaining it and did not really understand what he was talking about as i'm not a car expert. sorry to n00b up for the forum; but maybe you'd care to provide some insight with all your car wisdom.I just know that fuel pump screwed up and something with the cam shaft chipped. Which caused pressure problems.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 9:32 AM. Reason : a]

what would be the point of that?
3/17/2009 10:16:41 AM
nahh its covered under warranty but i got make a trip back up to Raleigh to get it wednesday becuase they had to special order a part from Audi.^^^ are u guys that bored. I usually squeak in a few posts on TWW as a quick break from work and don't feel like taking time to play grammar and spell nazi. fucking sue me.[Edited on March 17, 2009 at 10:49 AM. Reason : f]

^^I was just curious what a "metelology defect from the factory" would cost. All jokes aside, good thing the factory is covering it.

this is unfortunate. I thought VW/Audi has been improving lately.

nope, they're still using those damn fuel pumps with camshafts. krazy krauts.
