does it affect resale value having one over the other?

both!probably not if your shower is extra nice. but women's be wanting that bath.
3/6/2009 6:19:22 PM
If all you have is a shower stall it best be nice. Master bathrooms, aside from being en suite, should have some sort of feature that makes it stand out. If you have a shower stall that reminds you of the gym it needs help.

The showers are the Y are nicer than any I've ever used
3/6/2009 6:26:40 PM
bothbut if you have to choose, get the tub and get a great showerhead
3/6/2009 6:36:45 PM
Nice, big shower that's easy to step into. It's good for older folks who have a hard time getting in and out of a traditional tub.

When we built our house, we chose nice large shower over any sort of tub/shower or garden tub/ stall combo. Our shower is large enough to fit multiple people, any sort of shower furniture (like a teak bench), or a child's tub/seat. My husband and I enjoy showers together and I also like to bring Silas into the shower in his little tub while I shower. It has been fantastic. We just made sure that our second bathroom has a bath tub.

we have a shower and garden tub. i like it.

I'll tell you what... I've used my bathtub more than my wife has. Yes, I used bubble bath stuff purchased from Origins. Yes, I'm secure enough in my manhood to take bubble baths.my wife got me a Bath Bomb from Lush for christmas! it was great!

^^ same here.

If you don't have a tub AND a showerhead, a toilet, and a vanity, it is technically not a full bathSink, toilet, shower, tub -- full bathSink, toilet, shower -- 3/4 bathSink, toilet, tub -- 3/4 bathSink, toilet -- 1/2 bathIf you are running low on space, it is better to have the shower in the tub with a nice glass door or something than not to have the tub at all.

i know i take bubble baths too. they're so amazing. for ME, no bath would definitely be an issue. i mean super nice showers CAN make up for it...like double headed showers and stuff. but i really, really enjoy baths.

I don't really get the idea of jacuzzi's or whatever. My parents had one in our house when we were growing up in Cary... the only people to ever use it was me and my siblings when we were very young kids because we thought it was fun to have the luxury of an indoor "jacuzzi" (it wasn't even hardly big enough for two 7 year olds). Is it really just for show though?edit: and I know my dad put it in the floor plan simply for resale value... I guess my question is, WHY does it make a house more resellable... simply because one house at 300k vs another with a jacuzzi at 300k?[Edited on March 6, 2009 at 9:54 PM. Reason : .]

women in general like the idea of soaking in a tub.a small portion of them actually do it on a regular basis.
3/6/2009 9:59:45 PM
That's are really hard question - let your wife answer it, since she has the final say.yeah my parents have jucuzzi and have used it like 5x, but my nieces use it every night. I think they are the best way to clean kids - thow in bubble bath, water, and kids - mix - profit.

shower + separate bath > shower/bath combo > shower > bathshower/tub combos don't have to be boring[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 1:21 AM. Reason : &c]

^nothing boring about that!

the money spender in me says "why not have both" like everyone else here, but if you have to choose, go with bathtub and get a shower head installed if it doesn't have one. Just a shower stall I imagine will not be worth as much resale wise
3/7/2009 10:24:35 AM
it's only 5 x 3.5 feet i have to play with, so it's one or the other
3/7/2009 10:38:52 AM
You definitely need the tub. We have a garden tub and a shower, but I'd loooove to take out the tub and make a giant walk in shower instead. Only thing using the garden tub is the cat's litter box. But, we know we're not staying in the house forever and it'd majorly hurt resale.
3/7/2009 11:34:38 AM
Having a big shower would be a plus for me. I hate shower/tub combos. I'd only do this if there was a another bathroom in the house than had a tub though.
3/7/2009 3:16:50 PM
nice big shower with tile flooring and glass walls. then install a flat screen in the bathroom so you can watch Sportscenter while you shower.

What kind of bath is it when you have a toilet and a shower, sink in another room?
3/8/2009 1:28:27 PM
3/8/2009 2:13:18 PM
yeah bleach does the same thing and it is easier/cheaper.
3/8/2009 2:17:25 PM
yum, dioxins
3/8/2009 2:32:46 PM
Steam is chemical free, and you can use the same unit to remove wallpaper. Try that with bleach.
3/8/2009 2:40:54 PM
i don't have any wallpaper... didn't that go out of style in the 70's?
3/8/2009 3:04:21 PM
Exactly why I'm planning on removing all of it when I buy a place. That right there should pay for the steamer.
3/8/2009 4:02:06 PM
Growing up, I rarely used the jacuzzi function of my tub. I still liked to soak. I mean, there's nothing better than relaxing with some Disney-themed bubble bath and a cigarette after a long hard day of high school. But the size and depth of the tub is more important than how many jets it has or whatever. If you're pressed for space, there are lots of cool ways to combine the tub and shower. I used a shower like FykalJpn posted, and I really enjoyed the experience. You can also install the shower head in the ceiling centered over the tub, which looks cool (but I don't know how well it works). If your tub is large enough, you can just do the tub and a shower head--no curtain or door or anything. I like this the most, but a lot of people prefer something to enclose the space and keep the steam and heat in. But you can have a walk-in shower in another bath if you really wanna steam it up.

Master Bath and Kitchen are two largest items which affect resale value. Given enough space, go for both. If you can find / purchase Better Homes and Garden "Home Designer Suite 8", and have dimensions of your house, does a good job allowing you to drag/drop different things. I don't think I could buy a house without a bathtub in it.If I were building a house, I'd want to do a Japanese style bathroom.Bathtub with a washing area next to it. Wash your nasty self outside of the tub, then sit in the tub for a nice, clean soak. The tubs are nice and deep too unlike standard American tubs. The toilet and the sink are outside of the bathing room.
3/15/2009 10:38:38 AM
we get it, ok
3/15/2009 10:44:34 AM
i didn't read the thread, but i think that a bath tub is pointless unless it's big enough to comfortably hold 2 people (seriously)...the only thing i use mine for is washing the dog i've love a garden tub, though
