It would be cool if you had whether or not the user was online or offline and if they were offline put the information of the last time they were online on their respective user information page.

make it a user preference to show that information or not then

that would be ok, as long as the default setting is NOT to show it

Just search for all posts by the user, the last one is the time they were online last.
