Ok, not sure if this can be done, but I would like to have Excel tables show up on an active (zoom-able, able to pan, etc.) Google Maps (or earth, but prefer maps) page. And the tables have to be active, as in if I change data on the table in the map then all other tables that reference that cell will change on the map as well.Is this possible?

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do, but try starting here:http://code.google.com/apis/maps/

This looks possible, though perhaps not exactly as you described. It would probably be best to have the tables next to the map and not over the map window. Truthfully, with some creative CSS you could lay it all out however you wanted. Anyway, you'd have to do the coding to pass info back and forth all on your own unless google already has a framework for that sort of thing (some sort of table to XML translation tool), but it all sounds feasible depending on your skill set.

posting this question is the extent of my skill set. Well, I can tear shit up in Excel, but thats it.I messed around with inserting the google maps screen shot as a background into excel but its not quite what I want[Edited on February 26, 2009 at 5:18 PM. Reason : e]

What exactly is your goal?
2/26/2009 5:49:17 PM
have a project that we are doing for the military where we are going to have to reassign a bunch of trips/routes in an area and I want to be able to change a few numbers here and there and have all the other sites change automatically.
2/26/2009 6:02:21 PM
bttt any ideas?
3/4/2009 9:39:39 PM
excel's not gonna do that by itselfbest you'd be able to do is have a XML-formatted Excel sheet that some php/asp/javascript code can read and parse through and, using the above linked Google Maps API, generate the points/paths/directions/etc.and, depending on the how the information is put into the spreadsheet that may not work either - the maps API has a certain number of geocode (address) lookups that it'll do a day/month/something so if you get enough hits and are using addresses instead of say lat/long it could just stop workingin conclusion i have no idea what it is you want to do, but i'm gonna go ahead and say it's not gonna work[Edited on March 4, 2009 at 9:55 PM. Reason : i guess you don't really need it to be remotely hosted, but you're gonna at least need some internet]
3/4/2009 9:54:32 PM
^ It's possible, he's just going to need someone with the programming skills to pull it off. Really it sould just require some scripting skills and a good knowledge of the maps API.
3/4/2009 10:01:40 PM
I'll buy someone a beer!
3/5/2009 4:50:21 PM
^ More likely you'll pay someone at $75 per hour.
3/5/2009 4:54:21 PM
no, more likely I will just do it by hand.
3/5/2009 5:05:03 PM
have your excel sheet in csv format, then have a script (sed + awk or perl would be perfect) parse for new lines and commas and generate some kml. have a webpage feed the kml to google maps.you owe me some beer
3/5/2009 6:36:43 PM
ummm yeah... might as well tell me to shove my mouse up my ass... how about 2 beers to actually do it?
3/5/2009 6:39:19 PM
sed and awk aren't hard
3/5/2009 7:15:24 PM
I have zero knowledge of shit like that... no clue what they even are...
3/5/2009 7:21:24 PM
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=sed+awk
3/5/2009 7:43:34 PM
tells me nothing
3/5/2009 7:48:32 PM
sorry, there's no "let me read that for you" site
3/5/2009 7:49:25 PM
ok, here are the words I understood in your post:
3/5/2009 7:56:20 PM
wasn't my post.... apparently you just have general problems with reading comprehension
3/5/2009 7:57:05 PM
god dammit, ok, the post you were referring to... jesus christ
3/5/2009 7:59:14 PM
basically you don't have the knowledge to do this, you won't pay someone to do it, and you won't bother to try to learn.can a mod please lock this thread
3/5/2009 9:32:33 PM
I figured someone would want to do it for their ego.[Edited on March 5, 2009 at 9:36 PM. Reason : d]
3/5/2009 9:36:04 PM
How little you understand nerds.
3/5/2009 9:39:03 PM
I take that as a compliment
3/5/2009 9:40:21 PM
i guess it'd be a fun project for someone. but the complete lack of definition, plus the fact that you've come across as one of "those" people makes it not worth it
3/5/2009 9:41:07 PM
its just not worth it for me to learn to program for this one thing... I havent done anything remotely close to programming in about 14 years. I didnt understand the terminology you were mentioning, much less how to actually do anything with it and by the time I learned all of that the project will be over. If it was something I could learn to do in a week then someone else on here would have already done it in an hour and posted it.

3/5/2009 10:08:27 PM
RTFM?
3/5/2009 10:13:42 PM
oh dang i been trolled
3/5/2009 10:14:16 PM
no, I have no idea what RTFM means
3/5/2009 10:14:52 PM
k
3/5/2009 10:15:14 PM
yes, you're obviously not a programmer then
3/5/2009 10:15:50 PM
hahaha
3/5/2009 10:16:14 PM
chit chat
3/5/2009 10:18:56 PM
why on earth would this go in Chit Chat? dont be foolish
3/5/2009 10:21:52 PM
don't be a troll, troll
3/5/2009 10:25:46 PM
how am I trolling?

you need more ego, I thought you were good enough to do this, I gave you too much credit[Edited on March 7, 2009 at 4:28 PM. Reason : d]
3/7/2009 4:26:56 PM
you need more clue.i thought you were capable of RTFM
3/7/2009 4:58:47 PM
its ok if you cant do it, its cool, dont worry about it
3/8/2009 6:22:07 PM
Are you wanting something like this?You enter a start and stop address and it loads the map."http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=" & Untitled::Address 1 & "+to+" & Untitled::Address 2 & ""
3/8/2009 6:46:09 PM
haha no... cant tell if you were joking or not
3/8/2009 6:48:06 PM
Meh, don't know really. worked in excel though.Just tried it to try it.I've been wanting to work on a system for my family's farm to show field inventory locations (speciality trees) on a google map as push pins for a while based on GPS info. Alas, haven't had the time to focus on it.Good luck.
3/8/2009 6:53:06 PM
I need it to be in excel and be where I can utilize specific cells... the google map portion cant just be in one cell.Using a google map screen shot as the background in Excel works, BUT you cant zoom and pan like you can in google maps. Thats the missing piece I am looking for...
3/8/2009 6:59:52 PM
