She kept the squad together during the very hard transition. She was Coach Yow's right hand during, during such a rocky time, and beyond her vast credentials, she embodies everything Coach Yow stood for and wanted for her program. Fowler if you screw this up, you will have a firestorm of Yow supporters going up to bat for Coach Glance. Hopefully you make the "right" decision!

i think he "will"
2/23/2009 6:59:15 PM
There is noway she won't be named head coach. It didn't even cross my mind otherwise.
2/23/2009 6:59:35 PM
Signed.
2/23/2009 7:15:47 PM
do you always make awesome threads or just part of the time?
2/23/2009 7:16:59 PM
It was my understanding that she didn't want to be head coach.
2/23/2009 7:21:25 PM
So im sitting here watching the Girls BBall game vs. the Tarholes, and I wanted to know...why in the hell dont they have the same ten second rule to bring the ball across half court that they do in the guy's game? We would of forced atleast 3 turnovers in the first if that rule was in womens college bball? Does anyone know the reason why? I was just wondering....
2/23/2009 8:14:23 PM
they also have a :30 shot clock instead of the :35 in college men's
2/23/2009 8:18:30 PM
hire the best candidate for the job. if that is glance fine, but if a more qualified candidate is available and wants the job they should good it. I applaud glance for her hard work and ability to keep the team together, but blindly hiring someone just because they were the assistant of the old coach doesn't make much sense to me. hire the best available candidate that gives us the best chance to win the game.
2/23/2009 8:24:31 PM
amen
2/23/2009 8:27:18 PM
this BS of hiring as a sort of heartwarming, Yow's second in command should be a bonus, not the main factorif geno auriemma is interested in the position, bye Glance.that's just a hypothetical. but just b/c she was Yow's assistant all these years DOES NOT necessarily mean she's the best candidate.
2/23/2009 8:45:06 PM
Even if Auriemma did apply for the job I would give the job to glance b/c Id like to think that he would reward her loyalty to the State program-and Yow would of never hired her as an assistant if she didnt already have high credentials.
2/23/2009 8:49:18 PM
noyou're thinking with your heart too much hereif she's the best we can do, sure, keep her on
2/23/2009 8:51:36 PM
this was addressed on the premium pp site and they were saying that glance will prly never become head coach... apparently there are some differences between her and fowler....and also, i loved coach yow... but over the past 10 years, we really fell behind the rest of the acc (i know winning isnt everything in non-revenue sports)... but i am not sure that a total change of direction might not do everyone good..... its just like if youve ever had anyone important in your life die, eventually you just have to move on without them[Edited on February 23, 2009 at 8:53 PM. Well, lets say if Fowler went after lets say, Gail Goestenkoers(check spelling) at Univ. of Texas, Id be quite happy with that...on one and only one condition, that the new incoming Head Womens BBall Coach atleast kept Glance on his or her staff with moving the squad forward. She should be rewarded atleast for another 3 year term even if as someone else's assistant, but just letting go of her would be wrong. If this was her first year with the program then i would not care if she were released, but businesses public/private should take care of their own...even if only for a short term-results oriented while.

reasonably consistent considering that we have to face duke, unc, and maryland every year

we shouldnt hire glance.i dont like mediocrity
2/23/2009 10:06:57 PM
I don't pay attention to women's basketball really, but we finished the season ranked #23 in 04, #18/#20 in 06, and were in the "others receiving votes" in 05, so while that may have been 3rd-5th in the conference, that's still pretty solid nationwide.
2/23/2009 10:08:45 PM
Keep Glance. She was here before Fowler got a role in personnel decisions.

I just pulled this from the alt copy I compiled for the paper today:

hire stephanie glance. If there ever was a good sport to make an emotional hire for, WBB is it.
2/24/2009 7:11:55 AM
I'm just saying, there's a reason she's not ever been in a head coaching position.NCSU has the chance to make a marquee hire with all the good will around the program because of Yow.But then, Glance seems like a decent choice.
2/24/2009 8:31:34 AM
arent petitions lists of signed names? unless you find some way to get everyone to make an organized list on here and print it off, isnt this just another opinion thread? but yes, didnt cross my mind once that she wouldnt be the head coach(then again, neither does women's basketball )[Edited on February 24, 2009 at 8:37 AM. ^^^Glance has had the opportunity to be a head coach plenty of times. She's turned down offers at some very, very big schools to be with Yow and N.C. State. She said a couple years ago that N.C. State was her dream job and that she didn't want to leave Yow's side.Would be a huge mistake to let Glance go. She will do very well somewhere -- hopefully it's in Raleigh.
2/24/2009 11:18:21 AM
^ This guy knows. I believe that.
2/24/2009 11:47:43 AM
We still let women play basketball?

2/24/2009 12:23:36 PM
Does anyone know who/what recruits Yow and her squad had on the radar prior to her taking her leave, and if they are still committed to the squad for the 09-10 season?

Well after watching the UNC and State Womens game I def. hope there is an infusion of kick ass talent to the WBB team. I hope the women's basketball team goes after "Ashleigh Johnson"-who played for South Central (Winterville, NC) undefeated team. We could use a post player and with her ball handling abilities on her 6'3" frame, she would of helped us inside against UNC's goliath women the other night!!
2/25/2009 1:34:21 AM
Ashleigh Johnson Stats Scoring/Shooting PPG Pts FGM FGA 2FGM 2FGA 3FGM 3FGA FTM FTASeason Totals: 1.4 41 17 53 17 53 7 15Really? Maybe the stats are wrong, but I can't find anything about her anywhere. As far as I can tell, she's going to ECU and not playing basketball.[Edited on February 25, 2009 at 8:45 AM. Reason : .]
2/25/2009 8:42:25 AM
Ive seen Ashleigh play AAU and I had the opportunity to see her in the NCHSAA state play-offs and she averaged 11.5 pts a game, 6 blks, and 7 assists during the state tournament. From what i saw of our current womens BBALL team there would DEF. be a spot for her on our current WBB squad. Getting back to the original question of the post...what would happen to all of Yow's other assistants if a new coach came in would the rest of them all be fired??

i fucking loathe Lee Fowler and anything he does
2/25/2009 5:38:56 PM
Im still learning the ins and outs the Sports Administration Program and after reading Fowler's comments in the News & Observer....in reference to Coach Yow's request.... I know he has to post the position for 30 days b/c State is a public institution and since this is the policy....was making the statements he made really necessary? I think everyone associated with State, fans of the program etc, knew Coach Yow's wishes-but it seems as if he stuck his foot in his mouth big time-in reference to talking about the future of someone's job-especially as far as other candidates are concerned? ....Yeah I guess you can say, now that we've hired a good football coach, I think it's time to open up our AD position to a national search!! .....and Yes Coach Glance you do deserve a chance even if its just a one year results oriented contract... GO PACK!
2/26/2009 12:37:25 AM
I think we're still fucked unless we can find a good replacement for Shayla Fields, some other players are developing and have potential, but we're taking some pretty big roster hits already
