How did you get on? Online there are pretty much no jobs listed. Are there raleigh offices or a local number to call and get information? I have looked online but I cant find much information. Im trying to find something part time. What are the pro's and con's with working for an airline? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

I worked for southwest while at State. They were hiring and had a job fair at one of the airport hotels. Had to work crazy hours but worked it around my schedule. Easy work. You clock in took care of about 6 flights then no flights left untill two hours later so we just played video games or watched tv in the lounge underneat the terminal. Southwest was a great company to work for and was an awesome job to have in college. I would go to the ticket windows at the airport and just ask some of them if they are hiring "ramp" personnel probably.

My Bro in Law works part time for American Airlines. He just applied online and they called him.

Pros:

Great discounts on flights. Him and my sister flew first class to Europe for $200 RT each
Very Flexible working hours after your initial training period is completed.

Cons:
Training is very time consuming
Dealing with rude customers on a daily basis

That depends on the airline.

You're not going to have much luck getting on with an airline right now: more people are wanting jobs of which there are fewer offered. If you speak another language, your odds are better - obviously.

Back in November, I was offered a job with American, contingent, of course, on passing a drug test. I was on vacation when I got the 'you passed; now schedule training!' email, and of course, there was one class, and more job offers than job slots. So since I couldn't respond to the email until 9 hours later, I didn't get a seat in the training class. Which meant no job. That was the last hiring batch for a very long time.

God, I was looking forward to those travel benefits, too

I worked for American Airlines. The flight benefits depends on the level you're on. I worked for headquarters, so I got the basic free flights for myself. You just have to pay taxes and any mandatory fees. It's a great benefit

just go to the website and look for the "careers"/"jobs" link. i'm sure all the majors and most of the minors do their initial screening through the website

My cousin works a ticketing counter for Jet Blue...at JFK no less. She says you have to be willing to put up with a lot of shit, but NYers are a bigger pain than people in and out of Raleigh.

I used to co-op with US Airways Engineering. They had pretty awesome benefits in the engineering department. As a co-op, I got three free flights to anywhere in the domestic US and Canada per rotation. The full time engineers got an unlimited number of flights anywhere in the world, anytime they wanted, totally for free. The ONE catch though was that it was all flying standby, which was a PAIN IN THE ASS. They had special guest passes where the guest person only pays 10% of the total cost + taxes/etc. of a flight, so I flew to London with my gf of the time for a total of like $300. Going over there was fine since the flight was empty, but coming back, some rugby team took up all the seats of the flight and we ended up having to wait in the airport for like 7 hrs for the next flight.

Man, I've had to wait 6-8 hours just on layovers - for flights I paid for. That's an amazing benefit and totally worth that kind of waiting.

Well it really turns into a nightmare if you have a lot of layovers. You can easily get stranded in a city for a long time. If you do a lot of planning and have a Plan B, Plan C, and Plan D, it wouldn't be as bad. It just really sucks when you get all your stuff packed and ready, you head to the airport, they give you your boarding pass and everything, then you are left at the gate because they sold more tickets than they had seats.
