Turns out I can use it, It will work at a lower speed i.e. 667 Mhz.. One of my friends is selling an 800 Mhz 1gb stick. I have 2Gb and 512Mb sticks in my laptop. If I buy the 800Mhz stick and swap it with the 512 mb stick will it be dual channel?

^ Don't mix RAM types. It's asking for trouble. It sometimes works, but it just as often fucks things up.

Unless you have a bios that you can control the ram settings. In a Dell, you don't have that control and you should buy ram that has the exact same voltages and latencies as the stick you currently have.
