my guess is that firefox is abiding by the System preferences in windows. Have you tried going to the "Default Programs" section of control panel, and setting it there?

it must be firefox. i'm running the 64 bit version of windows 7 and i've reinstalled it twice. everything works fine except for trying to download/open a torrent link.dunno what's going on. i like firefox but this is strange. haven't read anything about this particular issue on the web.

what if you install a download manager plugin

no change. i even read up on mozilla knowledge base articles and their only suggestions are to rename the downloads folder, change the association in windows and delete a file out of the profile folder. did not help at all. i wonder why it's so broken? everything else about the browser works fine. i guess i'll have to keep using 64 bit IE for now or reinstall 64bit vista on this machine.just as a test, i went to torrentreactor and clicked a random download link, it works no problem.i went to mininova, it didn't work. clicked the magnet link beside a main link, it worked.wtf. is it a coding issue?[Edited on February 10, 2009 at 11:11 PM. ^ did that man, created an association and IE works fine.Firefox is the one having the issues and I can't figure out why. I'll click on the link, for a second or two a thinking circle appears where the cursor was and then nothing.no plugins or any other settings have been messed with. i might just reformat and try again or go back to vista.[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 11:06 AM. make sure Firefox isn't being blocked by DEP.

so it's ok for IE8 to run the code, but not firefox.hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I'll have to take a look when I get home.bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 7:02 PM. Reason : i hope this works.]

^ummm, I would use the DEP exceptions dialog in control panel. Turning off DEP entirely is a REALLY bad idea.

DEP is only on for essential windows programs and services only.i thought a DEP window would pop up if you did anything it didn't like.in my case, when i click on a torrent link, the busy cursor spins for a sec and then nothing happens.good stuff let me tell you.works fine in IE. stupid firefox, utorrent and windows 7 interaction.[Edited on February 11, 2009 at 11:39 PM. Reason : i'll never figure this out.]
