So i brought my tower to campus to have solidworks installed. They did and said i had to log on to the solidworks tunnel on putty to run it. So i get it home and log in to putty and try to run it and it says "Could not obtain a license for SolidWorks"I heard something like you have to be on the ncsu network, but it seems like they would tell you that.If anyone knows anything that would be helpful let me know.

meh, just torrent the shit
2/7/2009 6:37:29 PM
wait, they will give it to you? if i knew that i wouldn't have torrented it
2/7/2009 6:40:35 PM
you probably need access to the license server which is firewalled within the campus network
2/7/2009 7:22:25 PM
isnt the ssh tunnel supposed to take care of that?regardless, just use vcl.ncsu.edu
2/7/2009 7:33:38 PM
im not sure if its the case now but a while ago they used to have a limited number of licenses and you couldn't use it if x amount of people were already
2/7/2009 8:22:01 PM
vcl is to slow to realy use solidworks
2/7/2009 8:38:33 PM
I know the license server for solidworks was down yesterday. I dunno if its working today (I dont use it so have no way of verifying it).If you are having issues still, please come back to a HelpDesk and we can get you sorted out.

^ agree with point B totallyVCL is a server cluster, running really bad-ass machines. Your network connection sucks if you say it sucks. (re-reading the above, im fully expecting someone now to pull the xkcd trick with hyphens on that)
2/7/2009 9:04:43 PM
I would fully expect it to look and respond like shit over anything other than ResNet. It's 3D CAD for fucks sake. Pull your head out of your ass and return to the help desk immediately.
2/7/2009 11:07:33 PM
^ truethe bad-ass-edness of the machines has very little to do with anything when you're streaming 3D across a network.
2/7/2009 11:43:09 PM
streaming what?solidworks runs on your machine, not over the net. the only thing you need the internet for is the license for the program to rununless I'm the moron

VCL, what they were suggesting as an alternative, is remote desktop. Several people disagreed with Cmurda when he said that remote desktop is too slow for 3D CAD, insinuating that his connection sucked. I personally can see where Cmurda would be coming from with that and found the tone of those insinuations offensive, so I responded in kind

you can try this: https://vpn.ncsu.edu/

Apparently it doesn't work on VCL either. Perhaps the campus's licensing server is down? Maybe they're shit out of licenses, but "The desired vendor daemon is down. (-97, 121, 0)" doesn't make me think so. SysNews only reports:

Looking at some stuff, the license server is still down. Itll probably be fixed tomorrow at the earliest. with out that server, you aint getting it to work anywhere, your computer, VCL, or the campus labs.[Edited on February 8, 2009 at 9:23 AM. Reason : added some stuff]

Can anyone tell me how to slipstream SW SP5 into an original SW 2008 install iso? Apparently Vista 64bit is not supported on the regular Solidworks 2008, only in SP 3+ i think. Or is there an actual 64bit version of solidworks? 08/09?

I want solidworks on my computer. Guess i'll try to find the 64 bit copy, or attempt to slipstream it.

I have Solidworks installed on my computer, the NCSU version where you have to log on thru putty first. Every night at 11:00pm, SolidWorks attempts to load and I then it tries to send this email to SolidWorks. Any ideas on how to keep this from happening. The only way to end the process is to restart the computer.Thank you for participating in the SolidWorks Customer ExperienceProgram.
