I didn't see any paintball threads so I thought I'd start one.I've never played and am going to play in Roseville Sunday.I was wondering if the ground is all dirt because I want to wear my old football cleats. Also, should I wear two pairs of pants or just jeans because although a shirt and long sleeve shirt doesn't bother me, two pairs of pants does.I also plan on wearing a headband around my neck and some socks up to my shins.Should I wear a toboggan or is the helmet good enough?Any other suggestions? Thanks

oh my god, why don't you put on your paintball attire and get the fuck out of here. Just kidding, to each their own.

I'm just mainly concerned about cleats b/c if some parts of the field are not dirt I will be busting my ass all day.

I used to play the amateur circuit quite a bit. Even went so far as to try out for Arsenal once. Good lord was I a lot better in my head than in actuality. Here is my advice. Don't worry about cleats. It's your first time playing so you will not be running around like you think you are going to be in your head. From the way it sounds you are going to be pretty timid most of the day. Check the weather to determine what to wear. When I am just playing for fun I cheat like crazy. Tank top and shorts. Basically as much skin as possible showing. That way there is a chance it won't be seen I am hit and I can wipe the paint off and keep playing. This is a pretty bad habit to start but whatever. The paint doesn't hurt once you get out there and are running around. You're a grown man. The only way you may get hurt is if you are REALLY unlucky and happen to come up against someone with a wd fly angel or something crazy and they know how to use it. He would have to be a complete asshole though to bring a $1400 gun out to a rec course. Most people just use their A-6 or guns that are more rugged out there. Mainly just go out there with a positive attitude and don't stress about winning or loosing your first time.[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 9:03 PM. Reason : hj]

yeah I always just wear an old baseball cap backwards under the mask to keep it from slipping. Long sleeves if it's cold, short if it's not. The only time it hurts is if the adrenaline isn't flowing and the ball doesn't break. i.e. you're hiding in the woods and someone sees you and tries to shoot you from too far away.

protecting your junk is never a bad idea.wear comfortable, temperature appropriate clothing that you aren't worried about messing up. first couple times people play they tend to get pinned down behind bunkers pretty easily and don't move as much as they should. i wouldnt worry about cleats tbh.

Just an FYI, a friend of mine in NC State's club paintball group claims that they're going to be becoming an 'official' varsity sport soon. Not sure of the specifics on the whole thing, and frankly I'm not really sure what constitutes the difference when it comes to speedball.

sounds like u r headed to gotcha in wf. if u have cleats wear them,, it wont hurt...as long as u r comfortable in them. id wear some cargo pants or something u dont mind getting staind and a long sleeve shirt. that should be good enough. the balls dont hurt. head band is fine..u'll hate it after one game being on ur neck. be sure u r comfortable with ur gun and aiming.here is the most important tip u will ever hear...when u r in a game dont be afraid to MOVE and run to other bunkers. its the only way to win.just be loose and have fun, you'll love it. im goin out here saturday for the first time in 5 years, i used to be sponsored but doubt im near as good now.good luck. if u have anything else feel free to private message (pm) me.

Yea I'm sure I'll be pretty timid but I'm real comfortable in cleats and can't really cut without them so I think I'll bring them as long as both the woods and the area with inflatable objects is both on dirt or grass. I'm pretty excited though and will be going to goodwill tomorrow for bigger jeans (i am a fatass) and a crappy top.

top layer wear what is comfortable. there really is no need for 2 pairs of pants. leg hits dont hurt all that much as it is, so why be uncomfortable.i wouldnt bother taking the cheating advice either. might need to do that to try out for pro teams, but if you get caught doing it a bunch people just think you are an asshole and will either 1) not want to play rec with you (if its a bunch of rec players) or 2) gun for you harder and probably shoot you more than needed when you are "out."[Edited on February 6, 2009 at 12:52 AM. Reason : id wear the cleats btw. it doesnt hurt and can help a lot for quick bursts. aint much cutting todo]

i'm not very good myself, I just run full speed across the inflatable courses and shoot as many people and try to take out as many as I can, you can usually get at least 3 if you run fast enough. You usually end up running right out of the exit to the course because you're getting shot at so much.

We're trying to get a group of beginners together so they may be even worse then normal rec players. I've never even shot a paintball gun so I don't even think I could shoot anyone while moving. Running fast would help getting a flag though.

what time are you going out there? I found another cheap trick if its not too warm is to wear a sweatshirt underneath another shirt so that when it hits there is so much padding the ball tends to not break. i never saw the need for a neck band. if you are craning your head that much you deserve to be shot in the neck.

I'm going to go around noon. I bought some really loose jeans and one of those flag football belts along with a tighter fleece from goodwill today so I'm probably going with those. The loose jeans should protect my junk.

The Army Surplus store at the flea market on the Fairgrounds is also good for that, if you're playing woodland paintball you can pick up a full set of camo fatigues, hat too

yea it looks funny but it will feel nicer than a leather belt in my opinion, i also couldn't find any other belt big enough for me

Well we got 12 people so I'm guessing we reserved our own field of some sort. Any tips on 6 on 6, we are all pretty much beginners and I don't know what kind of game we are playing. Do we choose or is there some sort of preset program?
