I think the lurking has doubled in the past year and the posting has decreased by half. You would think with everyone getting laid off they would be on here more. This spells disaster for teh funny!

Two things, really:1) There's a giant hole between chit chat and the lounge. In other words, there are a lot of potentially good threads that never get made. The lounge is too serious, and almost anything "chit-chaty" that would be started would get moved to chit chat. I'm not talking about obvious chit chat stuff, like parodies, nsfw, etc., but rather topics that just seem to be a little bit light-spirited or fun. Instead, if you were to post the potentially good thread in chit chat, invariably someone comes along and posts nsfw content, large-photo bombs, auto-play music, pad after pad of off-topic racist garbage, etc. So where does the thread belong? Either rules for chit chat need to be modified to allow for serious threads not to be toyed with, or the rules for the lounge need to be modified to allow for slightly less serious threads.2) In the more serious sections (the soap box, the lounge, perhaps sports talk, tech talk or garage,) there is a problem with trolling. Perhaps there exist different definitions of "trolling"; I'm referring to the practice of intentionally posting insincere or otherwise bogus content with the primary, (not sole,) purpose of provoking a reaction, for immature entertainment value. Trolling is often easily recognizable, but sometimes people may simply actually be that stupid. It's reasonable to assume that trolls would claim innocent, saying "No, I really think that", in which case it would be difficult to identify with certainty the post or posts as being trolling. If, however, in the past, that same person clearly demonstrated a level of knowledge that reasonably suggests that the posts suspected of trolling aren't simply instances of them being extremely stupid, but rather are, in fact, trolling, then they should be suspended. Trolls do nothing but provide "one-step-forward" of entertainment to other trolls, but "two-steps-back" of TWW users in general not wanting to participate at all with TWW, leaving the TWW, lurkers never posting, and visitors never joining. Who would want to join a forum where decent and productive discussions are rarely free from nsfw and trolling?
