Have the set an exact opening date yet? The website (and everything else I can find) still says March 2009, however in the e-store section they are selling pre-packaged rounds for "Late Spring" which could mean June. The course looks to be shaping up well. http://www.lonniepoolegolfcourse.com/default.asp

Sweet.
2/4/2009 3:14:37 PM
the Jimmy V is being played there...so it'll definitely be open by July/August
2/4/2009 5:09:42 PM
took the girlfriend mountain biking on that thing last wkend. It is way longer than I would have thought. There are also islands of rough in the middle of most sand traps.... way cool
2/4/2009 6:51:52 PM
doesnt look like there is any water on teh holesThey should have wrapped that top half of the course around that lake. Would make for some nice holes with water all along the right side of the fairways.
2/4/2009 6:59:20 PM
actually it does look like there is water on 18 or whatever hole it isshit is green
2/4/2009 7:36:30 PM
They had to avoid the main bodies of water on the course because of some sort of watershed rule or something. One of the reasons it took so long to get going. Something like that, I think.
2/4/2009 8:48:27 PM
ahhh thats too bad definately would have added more signature holes I thinkLooks neat though, cant wait to play it years from now.

2/5/2009 8:41:28 AM
So is this going to be a public course and how much will the greens fee be?
2/5/2009 1:24:48 PM
there's 'online specials' to get two rounds for $125, four for $200, etc.. so it looks to probably be around $70 or so for a round.just guessing.it's public.[Edited on February 5, 2009 at 1:50 PM. Reason : as]
2/5/2009 1:48:34 PM
any deals for ncsu alum? it'd be nice to play a round with ncsu supporters from time to time
2/5/2009 11:03:17 PM
is palmer still going to do an exhibition when it opens like they were saying last year? I would love to see that
2/5/2009 11:52:59 PM
Bump.Its almost time.
4/29/2009 11:59:25 PM
Any word on an opening date?
4/30/2009 12:52:45 AM
eh, maybe some patches just need to fill out with grass, but this course does not look like it'll be worth the price
4/30/2009 12:57:13 AM
i have a hard time taking anything named Lonnie seriously. and is there/will there be a clubhouse or will it just be a cart shed and duplex trailer?
4/30/2009 9:11:22 AM
i was over there a couple weeks ago to look around. course looks nice, but there's no clubhouse. i talked to someone at the alumni house and he said they ran out of money and can't build one til they raise more.
4/30/2009 9:28:47 AM
they should have thought about that when they made those HIRE learning ads the course looks like shit. looks like it might be fun to play but the grass looks fucking sickly from the roads
4/30/2009 10:50:10 AM
No clubhouse? Wow, that should've already been up and running, you would think.
4/30/2009 11:36:08 AM
4/30/2009 11:52:41 AM
i kinda which it had homes in between holes, bc then they might build a sound-blocking wall along the interstate[Edited on April 30, 2009 at 11:55 AM. Reason : blocking not barrier LOL]
4/30/2009 11:55:43 AM
They'll probably have an RV and pull carts for your bags. The 'Tin Cup' feel would go right along with our reputation as Moo U.
4/30/2009 11:59:16 AM
4/30/2009 12:07:11 PM
they could at least use the alumni house.also, the range isn't done, but you could see where it was supposed to go. the course "looks like shit" in that the grass hasn't grown in everywhere yet, but the layout is real nice.[Edited on April 30, 2009 at 12:13 PM. Reason : ]
4/30/2009 12:09:18 PM
don't we have a turfgrass management and PGM programs at NCSU? You would think they would know how to properly manage a golf course and have top of the line grass on the course
4/30/2009 12:09:55 PM
give it time to grow in
4/30/2009 12:11:39 PM
it'd be nice if they made a webpage like the one UVA did for their Birdwood CourseTigerWoodsesque 3D views of every holehttp://www.boarsheadinn.com/activities/birdwood/courseoverview.aspx
4/30/2009 12:12:32 PM
jesus christ guys give it a lil time. grass isnt a new cadillac, its called a grow in for a reason. getting the bermuda to grow is the easiest fucking part. the bermuda JUST came out of dormancy and after the roots get at least 90 days of good heat to grow in youll forget it ever looked like this. bermuda sod establishes faster than any other grass there is. i can assure you that with the # 1 turf school in both 2 and 4 year that this course will be solid as fuck. establishing the golf course after the construction always takes time.....im sure hazentree looked like ass when it was in the exact same stage. i went to state for turf, im currently an assistant golf course superintendent, and ive been doing this shit since i was 15 so trust me on the sunscreen.drod...dont be so quick to talk shit. turf and the PGM program are to COMPLETELY different entities, and yes state has both. im sure they put in top of the line usga greens, and the irrigation/drainage and everything UNDER the turf is bar none. what you dont see is what is the most important part to the long term quality of a golf course. anybody can throw up a course to make it look good for a year, just look at the consistent drop off at a course like chapel ridge. that course was obviously built to sell houses.oh my god i just looked at the pictures. if you dont know what youre looking at dont make generalizations. this course is going to be SICK[Edited on April 30, 2009 at 12:59 PM. For the guys complaining, ^ pretty much hit the nail on the head. They know what they are doing. This course will be the nicest public course in the Raleigh area.
4/30/2009 12:47:53 PM
and for the people complaining about the clubhouse.....why spend all of your money on something that ISNT the golf course. the clubhouse is the one thing you can make due with until you have the money....people arent coming there to walk around in the clubhouse all day, they want to play golf. i know it took wayyyy too long for this course to be built but be patient with it and youll get what you want.
4/30/2009 1:09:57 PM
there is a nice temporary club house, to be replaced by the legit one when fundraising goals are met, then construction will take appx. 8-9 monthshttp://www.technicianonline.com/sports/the-grass-is-greener-on-centennial-campus-1.1635184[Edited on April 30, 2009 at 7:01 PM. Reason : link yo]

^^^ i hope youre right
4/30/2009 7:14:33 PM
i need to look at the map, but to the right of the parking lot it looks like they have a tee box right next to a green with almost no barrier. guess you just gotta pay attention on that hole?
4/30/2009 7:23:59 PM
ok yeah 5 months, what was 5 months ago???? november.... december? bermuda needs nighttime temps to average above 60 degrees to grow or it goes into dormancy. has that been the case for 5 months?? no, so like i said, give it about a year to grow in and it will be badass.^^ engineer =/= golf course superintendent. 4/30/2009 8:02:05 PM
like i said. ididnt know.
4/30/2009 8:04:17 PM
sorry i get worked up because i deal with people complaining about shit like this on a daily basis
4/30/2009 8:09:15 PM
its all good, do you landscape?
4/30/2009 8:44:54 PM
^He's already said he works in turfgrass.I hate when people have no clue about golf get all huffy puffy complaining about shit they don't know too.

4/30/2009 11:41:25 PM
^^ i know a thing or two about the game, im no mickelson though. what do you mean. isaid it looks like fun to play?
5/1/2009 12:30:08 AM
Not directed towards you....I worked at a course for a long time. Golfers have no idea the time and work it takes to keep a course pretty and green. The amount of money and effort that NCSU is putting into this course will no doubt make it succeed.
5/1/2009 12:40:02 AM
oh yes i understand the work and money it takes. my dadand i used to keep up with a BMX track, and if you think its just a few piles of dirt you got something coming, yes i know it didnt grow grass, but ido know that up keep is a motherfucker. let alone ruts and ditches and where irrigation(sp) was needed.
5/1/2009 12:53:15 AM
JayMCnasty exposed?!?!?!
5/1/2009 12:57:27 AM
took my dad by the course a couple of weeks ago. he just retired yesterday as a superintendent for ~25 years. he's definitely looking forward to playing on it and was very impressed with what they've got going on.that said, courses take a long time to develop correctly, even when entire fairways are sodded like ours are. i'm not a fan of the greens fees that i've heard rumored, but it does at least mean that the course won't turn into a babysitting service or a place for a bunch of punks to tear up on a regular basis. regardless of of anybody's opinions about golf in general, we've got something coming that state can be proud of, especially for the PGM program.[Edited on May 1, 2009 at 3:34 AM. 5/1/2009 8:57:52 AM
^compare that to other palmer courses and it's definitely worthwhile.
5/1/2009 9:02:19 AM
I've been playing golf for fifteen years now and I can still shoot my weight.
5/1/2009 9:03:00 AM
i'd GLADLY pay $50 to play that coursehell, I'm playing Arcadia Bluff in Michigan next week at a rate of $130/round$50 would be a steal
