What does everyone prefer. I generally like studio better because its polished and mixed well. but some live versions and performances are phenomenal as well. I do hate live versions of songs where the band lets the audience sing half the song.....it sounds like crap. Some bands are also known for really great sounding live music, so I guess it just depends.

a lot of guys do cool solos and leads and stuff that are just basic riffs in the studio, but then again the studios have the production

what the fuck kind of retarded question is this? This all depends on live quality, how much studio mixing adds to the original sound presentation (background vocals, track overlays, ect) whether or not people in the crowd are annoying or add to the experience, and um... how good the live performance is vs if the artist has improved in skill since the recording.shit thread.I'm Big Business and i approved this message./]

in general i dont like it when bands stray far away from their studio version when playing live. adding extra stuff is sometimes alright, but there are a few bands who just dont put as much into it (vocalists mostly) when performing live

and then there is stuff like DMB's two stepwhich was on a live album before it was on a studio album , technically

Studio versions aren't necessarily polished or mixed well.See the Bowie mix of Raw Power...sounds like shit, though is not without its charm.

i've always liked built to spill's live version of "virginia reel around the fountain" which is technically a halo benders song, but it sounds much better when it's just doug's vocals (the other guy's vocals are lame and add nothing).

totally depends on the band. i cant answer this straight up. live version the majority of the time if the band is good live though probably, but still too hard to answer in general.
