Just curious if there is a link or email address where you send comments to our band director? I went to basketball games all the time when I was a student and have had season tickets since graduation and I have been getting tired of hearing some of the same "popular radio" songs at the games and some of the songs I actually liked they don't play anymore (2 years ago when the played Eye of Tiger in close games I thought was great). My wife and I and the fans around us always talk about this at the games during timeouts when we hear the band play the Mighty Mighty Bosstones (that song should be retired) in particular. They don't have to listen to my suggestions but at least I figured I could let somebody know what some of the fans think.

maybe they can play some everclear

http://www.ncsu.edu/music/faculty/index.htmlLook up Dr. Paul Garcia and Wes Parker. Garcia is the band director and i think Wes is the assistant.

^thanks

eh i don't mind them changing up the songs. What makes me REALLY REALLY FUCKING is when they'll start playing when the cheerleaders are getting a WOLFFFF...PACCKKK chant going. The band started playing in the middle of the chant at least twice last night.

If you don't like this year's music, wait for next year. He puts some songs on the shelf for a few years so they don't get stale too quickly. He also tries to have a large folder of music during one season so he can break out a different song each game. Problem is we are trying to please 15,000+ people, not one.

band has never been the same since the red trumpets left (brandon and landon)
1/28/2009 8:50:39 PM
Do the red trombones not do it for you??
1/28/2009 8:53:11 PM
The football games aren't any better. Yes some of the songs change from season to season but every game within a single season is almost like the same script being used over and over again. The first time out of the second half will be this song, the end of the third quarter will be that song. It gets too redundant.
1/28/2009 8:57:01 PM
oh please, he doesn't try to have a large folder of music. All the Small Things...Holiday? HOLIDAY? REALLY?!I was at the Duke/State game, and they play some way more current stuff, and they don't play the fight song, etc a billion times. They played "Everytime We Touch" (gay, but different) and the Crazies do this ridiculous dance. and fuckin Hey Baby. For football AND basketball??
1/28/2009 9:48:15 PM
being a member of the band:Dr Garcia is the director for both the marching band and the pepband and gladly welcomes comments on song choices.paul_garcia@ncsu.edu is his email.we normally get several requests a year and do try to honor them. And yes we are aware of some songs repeated. some are tradition, so we are highly against changing them, like championship is always the first song we play. but many others we take in and out.

^They should get rid of the dance team and give their budget to the band. I don't get why we need a fucking dance team at basketball games when we have a cheerleading squad. All the dancers do is the same thing over and over again no matter what the music is and I find no entertainment value in it whatsoever.
1/28/2009 10:06:26 PM
^You can just leave your man card on the table, thanks.
1/28/2009 10:10:41 PM
dance team is a club i think. not sure how all that budget works or if they raise their own. i know they dont operate like the cheerleaders, as they dont go anywhere, just us and the cheerleaders and whatever team.
1/28/2009 10:15:59 PM
^Dance team is part of the athletic department.

1/28/2009 11:22:52 PM
^^ i have a large group of people that go to every game football and basketball and all of us keep wishing the band would play that. make it happen for the carolina game. its totally fitting. the students and alumni would all get a kick out of it.
1/28/2009 11:29:12 PM

1/29/2009 12:32:53 AM

Try In Storm and Sunshine, 76 trombones, various FAMU punches, Wimbledon, and learn all your major scales. Then maybe the trombone section in State's band will be worthwhile. Also, just to clarify, you are much better than the trumpets. Tell them to play most songs, esp. the Star-Spangled Banner, an octave lower than they presume they are capable of playing. That way they will stop hurting my ears so goddamn much.

Correction: The Dance Team is NOT part of the Athletic Department. It is a club. That's why it's not on GoPack.com, whereas Cheerleading is.
1/29/2009 10:41:22 AM
the problem with the band is the following...YOU WALKEDYOU TRAVELEDYOU TOOK TOOK TOOK TOO MANY STEPSYOU WALKEDYOU TRAVELEDYOU TOOK TOOK TOOK TOO MANY STEPSOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTWO DRIBBLE!that is so bad its an embarrassment[Edited on January 29, 2009 at 10:41 AM. Reason : .]

WolfpckGrl17 posted three videos of bands from historically black collegesThat is shocking
1/29/2009 11:59:01 AM
^^I'm glad they're calling out people for traveling, trying to get in their head or what-not. But i agree. I cringe in embarassment everytime I hear it.

1/29/2009 3:40:51 PM
^OK, that's pretty awesome, actually.Don't stop believin' would be key, also. Classics, folks, classics, with some new stuff thrown into the rotation each year and pulled while it is still fresh (like maybe playing top 40 type stuff only within the year it's popular? I realize it may take a while for a band arrangement to show up, but...)
1/29/2009 4:30:58 PM
1/29/2009 4:40:27 PM
I remember the band playing Outkast's "Hey Ya" and liking it b/c everyone would clap and dance along to it. That's a Top 40 song that I wouldn't mind them bringing back for a little while. It's somewhat of a classic.
1/29/2009 4:48:59 PM
^^I actually liked hate me now, it beats the shit out of hey baby and 75% of what the band is playing now. OH, i forgot, we can't play the black people music at state [Edited on January 29, 2009 at 4:53 PM. Reason : ]
