My father had this surgery yesterday. I take him back home from the hospital on Thursday. He had it at the same hospital that I work at and with a doctor I work with. I've been in on these types of surgeries probably over 100 times. I'll be helping to take care of him during his recovery. Has anyone had a parent or other relative have this surgery done and what advice can you give on helping them out? He's going to be out from work for at least 6 weeks.

My mom had both knees replaced at the same time this past February, so it's been about a year now.It was rough for quite a while from what I understand. I obviously don't live at home anymore, so I wasn't there first-hand. I know she was hating life for quite some time. She's fine now though -- better than ever. I'd never seen her stand up straight before, and now she can. She can walk with no problems. She hated physical therapy, but it's what helped.

the PT will suck and the whole thing will hurt, a lot. but after everything gets functional again and healed it is far far better than before. (my great uncle had his both done)
