So I've googled this plenty but everything I've found seems to be either immediately at release or not as specific as I would like. I have a 200$ gift card for Walmart and am trying to decide which to buy. From my understanding the instruments on World Tour are better. We already have one guitar from GH3. I'll be playing this game the majority of the time with my girlfriend, neither of us are experts and typically play medium/hard. From what I can tell Rock Band 2 has a better campaign mode and I like the track list more. I can't seem to find the stock GHWT guitar for sale at Walmart but the one from 3 seems available. Should I buy the individual Rock Band 2 game, another GH3 guitar and the Rock Band 2 drum kit? Or should I just buy the RB2 full kit, or the GHWT full kit?

looks like you're stuck with the peripherals for the game you want. zero compatibility between the 2

According to http://www.joystiq.com/Instrument-Compatibility-Matrix/#Wii the GH3 and WT guitars work on Rock Band 2, but the Rock Band 2 instruments don't work with either Guitar Hero.

ah, so i have RB for ps3, so i could buy GHWT and use the same instruments..nice.

From my understanding RB2 is far superior then GHWT in everything other then the instruments. I've only played the Wii GH3 guitar so thats all I have experience with. Is it going to be a huge difference to go to the RB2 instruments? And are the RB2 drums that bad for someone who has never played the drums and will definitely never be playing on expert?

I bought the gf GHWT for wii and we love it. The drums are hard as fuck to play but probably the most realistic (cymbals).
1/27/2009 9:47:53 AM
^^I've heard the same thing. From what I understand, the track listing (obviously a matter of personal opinion), gameplay, and overall set up are better on Rock Band 2. I haven't played Guitar Hero World Tour though, so this is all based on reviews that I've read.

I'm definitely digging the track list for RB2 more. I went through both and took out songs that I know I definitely like and RB2 outweighed GHWT by far. Granted this was with the DLC that is already available for RB2 which I would have to spend a little money on. I have found that with RB2 and GHWT there are a ton more songs that I don't think I've heard before (or can't recall) in comparison to GH3, so for all I know in the end I'll enjoy the tracklist from GHWT more.

So I went to walmart and they didn't have any copies of the full RB2 set nor any way for me to essentially put one together so we bought GHWT. Its pretty entertaining so far, I tried the drums which I didn't think I would like and they are a blast. I'm also enjoying the change in difficulty. Medium is really easy now and hard is just right where it gives me a challenge but I still have fun playing the songs.

i vote rb2.the graphics for gh suck, the design/layout of the scrolly music thingy sucks (circle buttons wtf?). i actually like the rb guitar controllers better b/c they lack the loud clicky noise and i really like the little buttons up closer to the body of the guitar. i like that you can just push the buttons during solos too (no strumming).
1/28/2009 8:45:52 AM
Yeah the one thing I have been very disappointed with is the graphics. I figure in the long run I probably made the better choice (though I was sorta forced into it by walmarts lack of RB2 and my impatience ). But now I can just wait till I can slickdeal a copy of just the game for 20$ and then I'll have both. If I had bought RB2 first I wouldnt have been able to go that route since the RB2 instruments dont work with GHWT.
1/28/2009 8:57:04 AM
RB2, hands down. They just added DLC, so now there really is no excuse.
1/28/2009 9:13:50 AM
Well the two factors for the long run are the DLC and the instruments. I can't afford to buy the full band for every RB or GH game that comes out. So far the guitar hero games have been shown to have better compatibility. So while I'm currently missing out on the DLC it will be much cheaper in the long run to now just be able to buy the actual game, rather then having to buy more instruments later. Not to mention at the moment I can't really afford a bunch of wiipoints to get the DLC, so for now that point is moot. I don't know whats going to happen with future GH or RB games, which will be better, but I would assume eventually the GH games are gonna catch up with the DLC, plus with rumors for an eventual guitar hero beatles, I think i'm liking the GH instruments right now.
1/28/2009 9:25:05 AM
the beatles are teh suck. seriously.and what do you mean by better compatibility b/w gh games? rb1 instruments work with rb2 and you can transfer all rb1 songs into rb2. i don't get it
1/28/2009 1:33:43 PM
Rock Band 2 man!
1/28/2009 7:38:11 PM
^^ The GH instruments are compatible with everything, the RB instruments only with RB. So now at least i'll be set and I can just buy the individual game versions of any more that come out, rather then buying new instruments.
1/29/2009 6:06:47 AM
oh. you should have said compatibility b/w instruments instead of games then. the gh guitars still suck imo
1/29/2009 9:07:53 AM
I've never played Rock Band 2's instruments so I can't compare, but I like the GHWT guitar more then the GH3 guitar. I find I can play notes far faster with it.
1/29/2009 9:28:44 AM
yo fagmaster pick up your phone.
1/29/2009 9:33:28 AM
So I tried playing bass as my gf was playing guitar, and a note came up that looked like the drum kick pedal note. What the hell do I use for that? This is GHWT, for the wii. I thought maybe I needed to plug the guitar's kick pedal into the bass but there doesnt appear to be a slot to plug it in, only a slot for what looks like a modem type cord. Help! Sorry i know thats noob.
1/29/2009 10:26:52 AM
you were on noob settingthat means you just strum while holding nothing down
1/29/2009 10:57:41 AM
I thought I was on hard, maybe not. Oh well, thanks!
1/29/2009 11:21:55 AM
you know, video game manuals do have SOME usefulness
1/29/2009 3:29:33 PM
Oh I checked the manual first. Absolutely nothing about the bass. Not even a mention of it.
