Any referrals?

let me know what services you get and how much. I am seriously considering switching to dish from TWC and it basically looked like it cost about the same for the HD/DVR and good cable packages

^^ sent PM.
1/23/2009 3:11:38 PM
Mine was about $80/mo for DVR and basic HD.

Here is a referral. It expires on Jan 31st:http://www.genejockeys.com/240/Dish%20Referal.pdfYou get free activation, $80 Credit, free HBO and Starz for 3 months and Cinemax for 1yr for 1penny.I have the Turbo Silver package, VIP722 DVR, and locals for $43/month with taxes and fees.

I have Dish too if anyone else needs a referral. I've been really happy with the service. HD content is clear and plentiful. Honestly I have it mainly for HD HBO which is what we end up watching over 1/2 the time.I have TubroHD Bronze with locals, HBO, and VIP612 DVR for about $50 after tax.

I have had Dish for years now through Embarq and LOVE it. Compared to the local options (Charter before and now Suddenlink, neither of which have any HD in my area) it is crystal clear, rarely drops out, and the price has only gone up on me once by a couple dollars when they redid their plans a couple years ago.I have TurboHD with locals, the VIP722 and I LOVE the damn DVR. They are even about to complete a system like Direct that allows you to schedule your DVR online when your away from home. Also beginning February 1st, you will be able to sign up for HD only package that gives you all of the HD channels on DISH, except RSNs, for $29.99/month. I am signing up for that immediately.[Edited on January 25, 2009 at 9:34 AM. Reason : ]

why would an HD only package not include some of the HD channels they already have like USA?That package is very tempting. Once I see more information on it, hopefully I will be able to make the swap as that is cheap!
1/25/2009 7:35:30 PM
be careful - the HD only doesn't include a LOT of channels you'd normally want.and you only get CNN. i must switch between 2-3 news stations so i don't commit suicide
1/25/2009 7:37:54 PM
The stuff we have seen so far is unofficial. I have a hard time believing they would ignore USA and SciFi HD when it has every HD channel that is offered by Dish. They have nothing on their site about it yet, so I will do more research towards the 1st.

Why Dish over DirectTV? Price?
1/25/2009 9:16:13 PM

The channels I miss with Dish HD are: Comedy Central, ESPNU, and the other Fox Sports Regions, but for half the price I was paying before with TWC and a DVR that actually works, it was worth it for me.
1/25/2009 10:23:34 PM
^^ didn't want referral?
1/25/2009 10:26:32 PM
^ Man, I had a brain fart and forgot my pops actually has dish, so I'm going to get him to refer me.^^ Yeah, I'm holding out hope that ESPNU will be one they would add sooner rather than later, hopefully before football season.

ah well. good luck with it!

Go through http://www.dishstore.net. I know most people say dont bother with third-party sellers, but they come highly recommended from the guys at satelliteguys.us. I saved another $125 on top of the standard Dish deal at the time I signed up by going through them...just depends on what package you go with. I know one thing I saved on was they do not charge you an activation fee...BUT you still get the activation fee credit from Dish. Some of the Dishstore deals overlap the ClubDish deals, but they let you combine to where youre saving as much as possible.

Google is your friend. This was the first link I found:http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/01/18/dish-network-adds-hd-only-package/So as you can see they will have a package with ONLY HD channels, and its supposed to have all of them. So I'm not sure why SciFi wouldn't be on the list, as it is currently broadcast in HD on DISH right now. Hence why I'm waiting on some official word on the DISH website with a full channel lineup. As for buying DISH from 3rd parties, I strongly recommend going through Embarq if you have home phone/DSL with them already. I didn't pay for jack shit through them and love having it all on one bill. Hell as it stands right now my utility bills all are done in two bills; One from the town I live in for lights, water, trash, etc. and one from Embarq for internet, phone, and DISH. Its pretty fucking sweet.[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 5:01 PM. Reason : ]

Yeah, you're an idiot.
1/27/2009 5:22:46 PM
^^ You do know that article is from Jan 2008 right?
1/27/2009 6:30:27 PM
so does dish broadcast all their hd channels at 1080p or what
2/3/2009 9:35:29 PM
no one has the bandwidth to do 1080p yet
2/3/2009 9:38:07 PM
they apparently do 1080p on demand stuff, they should have plenty of bandwidth
2/3/2009 9:45:25 PM
DirecTV has 1080p content as well.
2/3/2009 9:55:09 PM
what content
2/3/2009 10:02:37 PM
i was at the gf's place. it snowed. DirectTV went out. for two days.
2/3/2009 10:41:24 PM
^ I take it that was not our snow storm here in Raleigh? When it snowed here recently my DISH did not even flicker once....
2/3/2009 11:14:10 PM
so how often DOES it go out
2/3/2009 11:21:51 PM
I have had it now I would say 8 months... There was ONE rain storm that put me out of commission and a few times it has been grainy sporatically when it rains. But, 4 times, maybe, in 8 months for as much ALL HD for $42... yeah, I can handle that.
2/3/2009 11:31:36 PM
Added FOX News HD yesterday, FOX Business HD appears to be uplinked but not available yet. My parents might finally switch to Dish and the HD-only package (this was a dealbreaker). Finally will have ESPN when I visit .
2/4/2009 4:11:38 AM
^^^i've had dish at my house since i moved in Feb 06 and it has gone out 2 times, neither time longer than a minute or two. the cable in this area goes out more frequently than that. it stays on during complete downpours. the couple of times it did go out it was really really super windy and the trees were bending in all sorts of crazy directions. we haven't had enough snow to knock it out, so i'm not sure exactly how much it would take.
2/4/2009 8:46:47 AM
We got dish Monday. Before that I had TWC and the 8300HDC must be the shittiest box created. Barely a few hours would go by without pixelation. The DVR would record random shows that weren't new, and it was slow as hell. I thought there was a chance it was the wiring in the house - but as the sat is using the same wiring, I know now it isn't that. As some have mentioned, I am fairly certain the picture looks perceptibly better on sat than it ever did with the cable. The DVR is sick fast responsive, I can point the remote at the opposite wall and it works (our cable box SUCKED balls picking up the remote signal).I just have the basic Turbo bronze, locals, dvr and will pay $20 for six months and $40 thereafter. I went through dishstore and I think I am due ~$100 in rebates. I am locked into a 2 year contract.I'll also be ditching RR for awhile to go with DSL at about the same price and get $125 in rebates there, at which point I'll hope to either be leeching reliably from neighbors or switch back to RR in my name (was in my wifes name), hopefully at a promotional rate.
2/4/2009 9:21:08 AM
So I was looking over my cable bill and noticed this
2/4/2009 1:12:47 PM
