I feel like I'm being ripped off with my current insurance policy (Travelers) and am shopping around. But I can't find any good rates with GEICO, Progressive, Nationwide, AllState. Anybody have any advice for me?Allow me to describe my policy and rate:2 cars: 2007 S2000 (primary vehicle) & 1992 Integra GS-R (less than 3,000 miles/yr)S2000 - $250 Comprehensive & CollisionGS-R - no Comprehensive & CollisionBodily Injury - $100,000/$300,000Property Damage - $100,000Uninsured & Underinsured Motorist - $!00,000/$300,000Uninsured Motorists Property Damage - $100,000$2,285/yearAnd I have an 80 in a 65 ticket from 2 yrs ago that's fucking me up the ass. 12 years with a drivers license and I've never had an accident and just have this one ticket, ridiculous(yeah yeah yeah I'm a whiner)
1/22/2009 8:34:06 PM
That seems steep. I pay ~$1600/year with Geico in Florida and I have a 2001 S2000, no accidents or tickets though.
1/22/2009 8:49:35 PM
My GEICO quote with the ticket omitted with everything else identical was $1120.

Increase your deductibles?
1/22/2009 8:58:58 PM
lol, thank you. yes I'm aware that would change it GREATLY. I'm talking about lowering it, as is.BTW did you guys know Esurance doesn't insure in NC. Really makes you wonder why they pummel us with stupid commercials??
1/22/2009 9:07:20 PM
^yeah, their rates arent all that good anyway. If you want to lower your rate, you need to switch your primary vehicle. Listing a 2-seater sports car as your primary vehicle will always massively inflate your rate. Also, you should go for a 500 dollar deductible. 250 is raping you as well.Just as a "for instance". With geico, I get a 60% discount on my Lotus because I have the Saturn listed as my primary vehicle both on the policy and in mileage breakdowns. The difference in going from 250 to 500 deductible is more than 500 bucks a year for me, and I'd wager it would be for you as well. Paying an extra 250 out of pocket on the S2000 is well worth saving 500+ per year on the premium.---------You are fucked from the ticket btw. More than 20 over is considered reckless by every insurance company. I've had a single ticket, which has now gone off the books, and it raised my rates 4x. Increasing the deductible is the only way, right now, you are going to be able to significantly lower your payments.[Edited on January 22, 2009 at 9:23 PM. Reason : .]

^^The S2000 is my primary vehicle, I'm not going to lie to the insurance company about that. And the difference going from $500 to 250 was like $100/year (which now that I think about it might not be worth it). Just the same, thats only $100.My ticket was 15 over, not 20.
1/22/2009 9:48:19 PM
Any blemish on your record fucks you royally. I had an accident in Jan of 07 where some dipshit HS kid hit ME, and I called my insurance company (GEICO at the time) to just have it on record because I felt like the kid probably would never do it, and I never talked to his parents. When it came time to renew my policy, GEICO was like "you have an at-fault accident, so we're dropping you from our preferred plan rates."My insurance jumped fucking 70%.What's worse is now, even on another insurance provider, I'm getting fucked rates because GEICO fucked up my records.
1/22/2009 9:56:21 PM
it sure would be nice to see the government look out for us instead of letting us get royally screwed.[Edited on January 22, 2009 at 10:02 PM. Reason : Time to buy a V1]

Just shop around...When I got a new policy in Aug I got up to a $1k difference between certain policies. My shit is up next month w/ Nationwide, so I'm might stick w/ them but my employer offers a discounted policy w/ Liberty Mutual that can be deducted from my paycheck.
1/22/2009 10:03:37 PM
can you qualify for USAA, they have really good rates, but I don't know about with that ticket, as I have none
1/22/2009 10:06:27 PM
That reminds me Alex, I think my company's parent company has a discount with a provider. I need to ask some my manager about that.
1/22/2009 10:07:16 PM
we just switched from State Farm to Geico and we're saving a couple hundred
1/22/2009 10:09:41 PM
I'm an agent with Farm Bureau and I'd be glad to give you a quote. Our rates are usually very competitive with any company out there (especially the ones you named), and especially if you have a clean record. Are you the only driver on the policy? if you or anyone else on here wants a quote, just shoot me an email with the following information to eric.tucker@ncfbins.com:1) NC drivers license #'s for all drivers on the policy2) estimate how many miles you drive to school/work3) details of any claims that have been made on your insurance record for the last 3 years (how much $ in property damage or bodily injury did you cause)4) VIN numbers of any vehicles on policy5) either scan/email a copy of your policy with your coverages or list them out like TKE-Teg did at the top so I can give you an apples to apples quoteleave a contact number I can reach you on and I'll try to get back to you within 1 business day

Also have my homeowner's insurance with them, which has a discount, but the NCSU alumni association discount ended up being better than the multipolicy discount. no tickets and no accidents on my record. Insure everything with one provider. We insured both of our houses and my husband's car. When I got a car and put it on the policy it was 200 for the year.Otherwise, when I was by myself Amica had the best rates. They ended up beating Gieco by about 650 a year. I got a ticket and they didn't even count it toward my insurance.
1/22/2009 11:35:40 PM
I also have my renters insurance with Travelers.
1/23/2009 12:33:10 PM
Well I just switched to Liberty. Saved $500 + its deducted from my pay check.
1/23/2009 1:57:07 PM
What state are you living in? Your residence makes a huge difference in determining your premium. When I transferred my title from New York to North Carolina my premium dropped from $1,200/yr to under $600/yr. (Switched from Liberty Mutual to GEICO)I have a 2004 Camry with a clean record and pretty much the same coverage as you (liability and collision) except my deductible is $500. Having a speeding ticket will definately boost your premium but damn dude you're paying way too much (especially if you're insured in NC).

80 in a 65 is a 4-point ticket, it's way worse than getting your standard 60 in a 45 which you can usually get reduced to 54 in a 45.
1/23/2009 6:45:17 PM
Damn ya'll have high rates. Ours just hit that high because of a wreck. We have USAA though.
1/23/2009 6:47:53 PM

^^, so if you drive and get in a wreck where it's your fault, total your car and the other, and hurt the other person in excess of $1,800 worth of medical bills, it still wouldn't be nearly as bad as getting nailed for racing on the interstate, even if nobody was hurt nor any vehicle suffering any damage?[Edited on January 25, 2009 at 6:14 PM. http://www.pelnick.comgo through them.. they have an office in raleigh and cary i think... basically you tell them what you want, and they go through all the insurance companies and see who will over you the best rate.my roommate went through them and they found him a company called "EERIE" and they offered him a very low rate... they don't charge you a finders fee or anything either..i'd definitely check them out. give them a call and see what they can find. it can't hurt.
1/25/2009 7:30:15 PM
jethromoore, is that just for NC? I got my ticket in VA and the cop didn't tell me shit.I can't believe I'm being thrown under the bus (if I indeed have 4 pts) for going 80mph on an empty stretch of I-85 at 6:30am 5 days before Christmas. Man I'm a fucking moron for not appealing it to the DA (to basically get it reduced).fucking hellAnd that points chart is BS. How the hell can speeding be that evil?
1/27/2009 8:08:02 PM
DAs in virginia are not particularly eager to reduce traffic tickets; speeding in VA is generally a bad idea[Edited on January 27, 2009 at 8:39 PM. Reason : the insurance points should be based off where the car is registered]
1/27/2009 8:38:39 PM
In the past I got a 69 in a 55 in VA (like over 5 yrs ago). They didn't give a damn and my insurance never went up b/c it wasn't reported to NC DMV.
