Very disappointed that Clint and "Gran Torino" were snubbed. I saw nothing new or remarkable from Brad Pitt in "Benjamin Button", give the Oscar to Rourke.[Edited on January 22, 2009 at 12:23 PM. Reason : edit]

Robert Downey Jr. was actually given a lot of consideration from a lot of people. Although controversial, I'm not surprised about the nomination.

Oscars are bullshit.

Give best actor to RourkeGive best picture to Slumdog and Director to Boyle

^ Add in Ledger best supporting actor and I concur.

im gonna have to check out that Werner Herzog film (sp?), he did another one about the ocean about a year ago except it was supposed to be about aliens and i just couldn't get with it but this sounds more coherent

I haven't seen over half of the movies in these nominations. And I watch a lot of movies.

The only thing Benjamin Button should win is Visual Effects and Make-up I guess.

I think the Oscars are waaaaay better at select nominees than the GrammysDowney has become one of my favorite actors - I went back and watched Natural Born Killers and he was the best part about that movie

How in the hell is "The Wrestler" not in best original song?
1/22/2009 1:06:19 PM
Encounters at the End of the World was so good. It's also cool to see Richard Jenkins get a nom for The Visitor. It was released so early this year I figured it would have been forgotten about.Where I'd put my money:Picture: Slumdog MillionaireActor: RourkeActress: Winslet (possibly Streep)Supporting Actor: LedgerSupporting Actress: TomeiDirector: Boyle

these nominations are crap. no best picture for WALL-E? how does slumdog millionaire get two nominations in the same category? the irony of the downey nomination must be lost on the academy.
1/22/2009 9:20:56 PM
by irony do you mean that he was more of a supporting actor than a lead?
1/22/2009 9:38:46 PM
no, because the movie is about the superficiality of hollywood but more specifically, the awards ('you never go full retard', etc). downey plays a character playing an oscar-bait role.
1/22/2009 10:24:01 PM
so what, they should be angry and vengeful and snub him?
1/23/2009 12:35:01 AM
WALL-E was such a garbage movie, if you say that it deserves and oscar nomination for best picture let alone saying it was good, then you lose all movie critic credibility points as far as im concernedWALL-E is not even the best animated picture of the year, that goes to Kung-Fu Panda which is about 100 times better

You don't know what you're fucking talking about and you prove it on a regular basis.

You said the irony was "lost on the academy," so I don't understand what you're getting at otherwise. I'm sure they knew what Tropic Thunder was about.
