hey, can anyone recommend an unraring program for mac? my friend said i needed one to open up this massive file he is going to send me.

any help would be appreciated

thanks for the input! i ended up with unrarx, after reading about it working when stuffit didnt, i thought i'd save myself the trouble of figuring it out later. i'll report back on how it worked after the download goes through!

well i'd hope for no smart ass remarks since i dont make myself to be some computer whiz or anything. i know enough to get around and now and then i need help with something new

i used unrarx and it worked fine. now i'll uninstall it and go on with my life.

but i did have a weird (to me) event. my start up disk was full like 4 times in a row and i kept having to restart my computer. it happens to me occasionally on my mac and (work) pc but after unraring it happened every time i had a transfer-- is this normal?

take a look at the unarchiver
it takes even less effort than unrarx, it basically replaces BOMArchiveHelper and registers itself to open any file type it supports.

double click the archive and the files are unarchived into a folder in the same location as the archive. you can even set it to move the archive to the trash after it unarchives.

It means you've run out of disk space. Restarting your computer probably clears some cache files which lets you keep working, but downloading anything of consequence fills it up again. If you open a finder window, at the bottom it will say "XX.XX Gb available". Sounds like it's time to go clean out old music/files/downloads and clear some space.

Also empty your trash can if you have a bunch of stuff in it.

i'll try emptying my trash, its been awhile since ive done that. as far as regular hard drive space, i dont have many pictures saved on my computer, i use an external hd and i have music saved but its only 11g

hopefully the trash empty will help me out for awhile, thanks!

How can there be so many options here? It's not really a corner of the market that has very far to go (IMO). You double click the .rar file, it unrars, it creates a new folder. The end. What the fuck else is there to differentiate these multiple programs?
