I also thought he was overreacting, maybe it just hurt a lot more than it looks like it would, but I doubt it.

i'm pretty sure they ended up saying it was the guy who got hurt's brother that walked out onto the court. not that that is good enough reason to walk onto the court during the game, but im sure a random guy wouldnt be that pissed

if you're not a player, coach, ref, etc, you're not allowed on the court during an event

unless you want to get arrested

its just like any other sport

^^ it's not a legal activity though. it's not like he walked up to a judge in a court of law. this is just a college basketball game. he didn't even do anything, just disrupted it. arrested for disrupting a basketball game? thrown out i see, banned i see, but arrested?

Nah, his brother came down on the court, too, and julius was shooing him away.

unless there were two different incidents where hodge family members came down.

I thought I remember the people on the Midnight Madness show said that they did call a foul, even though it looked like the Marquette player didn't do anything wrong. Jeff Xavier's face hit the Marquette player's elbow. When Xavier couldn't shoot the free throws another Providence player was going to shoot the FTs. That's when Xavier's brother came down and hopped over the Providence bench so that he could have a word with the official and the Marquette player. You, as a fan, are never allowed on any playing field while the game is underway, and in some states stepping foot on the floor or field while the game is underway results in an automatic arrest for trespassing. Other states leave it up to the venue to determine the punishment (i.e. as simple as an ejection or as harsh as a ban from the venue).

I heard on the radio that the Marquette coach wanted to suspend the game, felt the court wasn't safe with random people walking on the court

^^it def could have turned out a lot worse than it did...

i mean he could have had some type of weapon and went at someone. If he was crazy enough to walk on the court that nonchalantly.....

The real volume came when he pointed at Paul.

I'd forgotten about that, Hodge certainly knew how to work up NC State fans. Without even trying.

That was awesome. I will always see Chris Paul as a dirty player, that wasn't his first offense.

Quote :
"PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The brother of a Providence basketball player who ran onto the court to confront a referee was ordered held without bail Tuesday for allegedly violating his probation from a 2005 drug conviction.

Jonathan Xavier came down the stands and jumped over the Providence bench during a nationally televised game on Jan. 17 to confront a referee. He was upset no foul was called after his brother, Providence guard Jeff Xavier, was hit in the face by a Marquette defender's arm while he was driving to the basket.

Xavier, 24, pleaded not guilty Tuesday to the disorderly conduct charge. Bail for that charge was set at $10,000.

A hearing has been scheduled Feb. 10 for a judge to decide whether he also violated probation.

"I saw him on the court but that was an unfortunate situation. I wish none of that happened," Jeff Xavier, quoted in the Providence Journal, said after the game. "I just want to move forward."

State prosecutors said Xavier pleaded no contest in 2005 to three drug charges. He received a six-year sentence but only had to serve eight months, with the remainder suspended.

If a judge finds he violated the terms of probation, which required him to stay out of trouble, he could have to serve some or all of the remaining years behind bars.

Providence officials said they would beef up security at games, posting uniformed police officers behind team benches.
