Upon passing the FE, how long is the 'EIT' status good for before a renewal (either form or retesting) is required? I know you need to work 4 years as an engineer before you can take the PE test, but how long do you have to get that 4 years of experience in?And Has it taken anyone longer than 4 years between the FE and PE (i.e. you didn't work as an 'engineer' immediate after graduation)?I tried searching both the NC PE website and TWW, but I couldn't find it. Thanks!

i'm pretty sure it doesn't "expire"

pretty sure you don't have to renew your EIT certification and that you can take the PE any time after you've gotten the required years of experience to put on the application.not sure why you'd want to wait longer than necessary, though...probably be easier to take the PE as soon as possible

^as i understand it, you don't have to work directly under a PE as much as be able to have licensed engineers vouch for your work experience.but i see where you're coming from, so your point is well taken.[Edited on January 19, 2009 at 5:58 AM. Reason : clarity]

what really sucks is I passed the FE two years before I graduated, I started working under a PE right after I found out that I passed, but none of that experience counts since it was all pre-graduation

^application for taking the PE exam requires something like 5 references, right? as i understand it, 3 of those need to be from licenced engineers who know your work. they don't have to be your boss, which is all i'm saying...
