Just heard on SiriusXMU and read on his blog that Ryan Adams will be stepping down from The Cardinals and music all together after they play their final show in march. There are a lot of Ryan Adams fans on this board. I'm not gonna quote the entire entry from his blog b/c its pretty long and bounces around, but definitely read it if you are interested in what he has to say.

http://cave.cardinology.com/

I for one never got to see him live, unfortunately, but I dig everything he's ever done. Hopefully he'll take a break and resurface in a couple years.

Also heard that he has hundreds of recorded unreleased material so i'm sure we may see some of that in the future as well.

Well, it has been 40 years since he bought his first real six string.

Really? Rock N Roll? Easy Tiger?

The dude's got two, maybe three good solo records.

Would you like another copy? Rock N Roll is terrible, even when viewed with the idea that it's purposefully bad.

i have to admit, i liked several tracks on rock n roll, notably so alive and the one that has the line about 'cocaine dagger with throats to cut'

I agree that Rock n Roll isn't his greatest work. I enjoy So Alive and This Is It (although the Cardinals version blows it out of the water). It was one of those oneoff type deals he's known to go experiment on. That being said, I don't want another copy

But Easy Tiger I enjoyed much more. I think its very good.

really the only song i can't stand on easy tiger is halloween head, that is shit and and should have never made the album.

not to mention half of that album was written by 2000 or 2001

ahhh, yeah he removed his long diatribe that was on the front page yesterday. Basically his new post says the same thing, but is toned down a little more. He's leaving the cardinals for personal and health reasons. Wants to step away from music for awhile to clear his head and focus on other things in life. But he's not quitting and leaving the band behind. So yeah...we'll see.

i've said it before, and i'll say it again

ryan adams is a fucking douche, and i would love nothing more than to be able to hate his guts and spit on his records

but he's too damn good of a songwriter for that to happen

bttt

this was posted in the music 2009 thread but i figured i'd bump it for the masses.

Ryan adams is engaged to Mandy Moore. I'm down with that, she's hot. She's gone from Fez to Zach Braff to Andy Roddick to DJ AM to Ryan Adams to Greg Laswell back to DJ AM and now Ryan Adams again. Man she's gotten around in the last decade.

also, he has a released a new Valentines day EP on iTunes only with some re-released love songs and 1 unreleased track for 3.99

no way he's done with music altogether. i'll give him a year, maybe two at most before he starts itching to get back in the studio. as long as he doesn't go deaf by then.

and even if he never records another song, i've still got 292 recordings on my ipod to listen to for the rest of my life.

Went to his show in Charleston. It was awful. He played for 72 minutes, and of the 13 songs he played, 4 were Neal's songs. No encore, and people booed as he walked off the stage.

i figured you did, but i just got up.

yeah, i don't know, i think he's just a weirdo.

i don't think it will be, i think it'll be known as just 'the cardinals' from now on, and i think he'll get more self indulgent with his pet projects.

BTTT. It's been two years, some experimental heavy metal and the rebirth of his own record label but he's back to making music.

new solo album due out next month. Now available for listening on NPR

http://www.npr.org/2011/09/25/140640429/first-listen-ryan-adams-ashes-and-fire?sc=fb&cc=fp

also, i recommend listening to his Vampire Weekend covers. pretty good actually

I knew a Bryan Addams joke was going to pop-up in here before even opening the thread. But for some reason, this one actually tickled my funny bone. +1

PS* In terms of the actual subject matter of the thread, I am actually e sad Ryan Adams is stepping back from his career for a while. Even though I am not a huge fun of...well...much of any of his solo stuff.

Easy Tiger is pretty bad. Cardinology isn't BAD, but it's not good.
