http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/01/07/porn-industry-seeks-federal-bailout/OK this is getting way too retarded now. I mean where does it end. I know they wont actually get a bailout, but just the fact they are asking has shown how out of control this bail out crap is getting

At least it'll go to companies that have a real chance of making a profit and produce a product that consumers will buy.

The Porn industry is one industry worth saving.

I hardly agree that Larry Flint is an American hero by any metric. However, you really couldn't have thought they were serious?

he's a hero to proponents of free speech. he really has led an amazing life and while his methods are occasionally crude, he usually fights for the right things.

I wish I could think of a dirty way to describe "rent-seeking behavior."

People still pay for porn?

People ever paid for porn?
1/9/2009 8:12:10 PM
yes. . . ? it's a huge money-maker. billions of dollars in the adult film industry iirc.
1/9/2009 10:13:35 PM
Not sure what the porn industry is gonna do in a decade or two. Right now there are still plenty of baby boomers that pay for their porn, but once they pass or get to old to remember to wank, they industry is gonna be hurtin'. I have met probably one person around my age who has actually purchased porn.

^ plus there is advertising. Never underestimate how much money you can make by giving stuff away for free on the internet and sticking an advertisement on it.

They might be losing a bit of their profit, which isn't even the point of this whole "bailout" request, but it would be ridiculously difficult to bankrupt the porn industry. All you have to do it but a camera and pay someone a couple hundred bucks to fuck in front of it. It's not like there is some huge production cost to recoup here.

^^you could have said the same thing about mp3s 6 or 7 years ago.

i, too, have never paid a single dime for porn.

Funny bit quoted on the blog Marginal Revolution that seemed relevant for this thread.

this seems relevant to our interests:http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200901/pornit's a short news item about a new porn industry hedge fund, basically operating under the premise that porn is recession-proof.
