I am drifting everywhere, all the time. 2 more sets of rear tires gone this month. I need to get this under control. The m3 now also has seats, harnesses on the way, I need to find a roll bar. Here I go again, FIND ME A DRIFT EVENT! Doesn't anybody on TWW drift? I thought it was the hot stuff w/all the ricers nowadays, c'mon TWW speak up!

jsquared hasn't been around in quite some time. I need help you guys, I really do...

check carolinanissans.com from time to time. They do a pretty good job of posting drifting events in the "CNEA motorsports section" If you cant find it let me know and i will show you y0
1/8/2009 11:32:57 PM
I will look into that, thanks. Too bad it's near impossible to find websites with calendars of drift events, and there's almost no "learning" program. Every car that does it has obnoxious graphics and a huge wing, every website that talks about it has giant flashing animations all over it... OK, I'm generalizing a little bit.
1/9/2009 4:55:58 PM
no you arent, it is really like that
1/9/2009 5:02:17 PM
seems like i recall hearing about cmp and vmp having drift events from time to time. there was some drift club in va that put them on... i can't remember the name off hand though, maybe it'll come to me later.^^^^^haha, he was hardcore d0riftorer... i welded his 240's diff back in the day.

You need a tire sponsor Ahmet.
1/9/2009 8:28:50 PM
http://www.lookoutdrift.com/ is the people i was thinking of. doesn't look like the site has been updated in a couple of years though...

I drove J's car, it was ridiculously easy to drift. I have to flick mine around or come in way too fast and upset the balance of the car. J's, you'd touch the throttle and it'd come around as long as you're not going dead straight... I have no problem placing the car where I want at 10-40mph or so with throttle/steering, I am somewhat uncomfortable with other techniques however, like dumping the clutch to break the rear tires loose, or using the e brake. Seems like "abuse". I like to come in and out of a drift smoothly. I don't want a drift car, I just want more practice with the car sideways at higher speeds. I've had a few close calls where I slid sideways for some time at 80-90mph, I want to be more comfortable with that sort of thing (not to say I don't enjoy drifting, I really do), but I am not trying to set up a drift car.I also wonder WHY most drifters can be classified in the "ricer" category. This brings me to the other problem w/a tire sponsor, I am not in their target audience. That said, I'd love to pick up a sponsor be in bike racing or car stuff, oh how I would just love that...Still looking, still looking. We're putting together trackschedule.com this week, maybe I'll just start practicing in one of the instructor groups at the next HPDE event, I've already started thinking about going through oak tree sideways, but that's cheating cause it'd be another power slide. Do I have the balls to try it at turn 9? I hope I don't finally have a wreck in my own car, or worse...
1/11/2009 1:54:18 AM
I drifted around a GT3 a few times, and that car really highlighted how much I prefer "on power" drifting, I want to grow my balls just having the car in an off power slide (and particularly one not induced by the abrupt application of the e brake or pulsing the clutch). The more capable the car, the more ridiculous the speeds have to be to induce oversteer, which is why I really ought to be doing this on track, and not on the streets... I need my own 911, and a few days at an empty track, that's a goal to work for in and of itself, this sucks.
1/11/2009 1:56:54 AM
they have drift evens like every other weekend on the patriot course in the summer
1/11/2009 9:50:32 AM
Who's they and how do I sign up?
1/11/2009 10:26:51 AM
various car clubs and sports car clubs i know of. from what ive read on here i thought you spend a lot of time in the car at vir. and various other tracks, so i thought you could tell us of some things. look at the schedual for cmp, rumbling rd(sp), vir, the rock, and various other surrounding tracks, im sure they have a few dates that are reserved for a drift day. good luck. let me know what you find
1/11/2009 11:09:43 AM
I do but drifting is not considered 'high performance' driving, which is what I instruct. I come across the patriot course at VIR used for drifting occasionally, otherwise I've never come across anything...
1/11/2009 11:43:20 AM
So, Chin Motorsports, PCA, Golden Gate Lotus Club, NASA, Ferrari Club, THSCC, Mazda Drivers, Track Daze, etc and VIR, Roebling Road, Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Summit Point, Rockingham, CMP and crap even the Nurburgring are amongst the venues/clubs I've instructed/TTs and open lapping with. I've not seen any real info on drifting. That's what I need help with, I do know that NASA runs a few but I figured somebody here would have some experience...[Edited on January 11, 2009 at 12:09 PM. Reason : HELP!]
1/11/2009 12:03:47 PM
UPDATE:NASA does not (and doesn't appear to have since 2006) have any drift related info at all what so ever. All of their other race/HPDE/Rally, etc. venues seem to be doing fine...

I've wasted a decent amount of time, no dice yet...

I LOVE YOU!!So, any idea what the "grip" part of the "drift racing" and "grip racing" is? I'm going to see if I can get a 2nd set of rear wheels ready in time for this, looks like fun!
1/15/2009 1:37:13 PM
no i dont, i would just email the guy and ask..maybe like some kind of awd stuff....i love you too do you want a set of e36 m3 motorsport wheels that could be used for something such as this (kind of scratched up)?apparently, its like regular racing instead of sliding around the corner, you actually drive into it and exit without losing traction.[Edited on January 15, 2009 at 1:52 PM. So I bought a 911, which throws a monkey wrench into the whole issue. This may have to be put on hold after I made all the noise :/

^ Pics or it didn't happen.

I'm so far beyond retarded. I've now got 3 cars. It's got 70k miles, options are dual stage LSD, pimp stereo, full leather dash/seats. It's had exhaust/intake and tune, suspension a short shift kit, late lights, and some other crap installed. It needed some work but I got a great deal on it. Should be ready for some track time within a couple of weeks. I'll wait on seats/roof rack, etc till something else is sold. Afterall I had just gotten seats/harnesses in the m3. I HATE having this much money tied into cars. Anyway, did you want to know more? It's dark blue over gray.
1/19/2009 8:48:02 PM
LSD is an option for a Porsche?
1/19/2009 10:01:31 PM
996?
1/19/2009 10:13:05 PM
"needed some work"
1/19/2009 11:02:47 PM
I'll start a new thread, I don't want to gay this one up any more. I intend to go drifting at one point, I could take the 911, but I'd rather drift that on a real race track, and not a makeshift large parking lot. That I want to do w/the M3, but there are priorities, like putting the 911 on track ASAP.
