Has anyone ever been to Poor Richard's Quail Roost, in Prospect Hill NC? I'd like to know if they are actually a sporting clay location but their phone number doesn't seem to work, not sure they are even still in business.

never been to it. The only course I know of around here is Deep River near Sanford/Moncure.

Yeah I've been to that one, and there is also Drake Landing in Angier/Fuquay-Varina. This other one would just be about an hour closer to my house if it actually is in business.

how is the course at Drake Landing in comparison to Deep River? The only other courses I've been to are a few hours drive from here and not convenient at all.

To me they are both pretty equal, each has challenging shots. If I remember correctly Drake Landing's trail is a little longer than Deep River, but I've only been there once. I think Deep River's trail is about 1.5 miles and Drake Landing's is about 2.

The most challenging course I've been to is Hunting Creek Preserves in Harmony, NC. Their course really winds through the trees and hills, and you have to time several of your shots around the course based on when you have a clear shot through a small window. To me it reminded me a lot of duck hunting in swamps. Deep River probably used to look like that, but all the trees have been mowed down over the years from being shot at.

Does Drake Landing have many battue traps? They only occasionally have one out at Deep River, and I enjoy shooting them and rabbits more than regular clays.

Drove out to Poor Richard's Quail Roost today, don't waste your time. Probably haven't thrown a clay target in 5 years. The remains of a few manual throwers were strung out on some busted old tree stands and in some honeysuckle.
