Let me preface this with I don't reboot my windows machine very often (maybe once every ~3 months) and it's running windows xp sp2 32bitI updated my video driver in hopes of improved performance in some games. I reboot my computer. Halfway into booting up I realize I have a new hard drive I've been meaning to put in so I power it off. I add in my e-sata bracket and hook it all up. I go to boot it up but my boot.ini is hosed. I boot from hiren's disk and edit my boot.ini and it works properly. I get in to windows and its trying to do a 5 phase chkdsk, you know the one that takes years. Well I was like fuck that, no way I can sleep through that noise. I reboot and quit the chkdsk and goto login. My credentials are accepted but as soon as I login and start loading personal settings, it starts the logging off procedure. This is true for every account on the machine in safe mode and not in safe mode. I tried some fix about userinit needing to be renamed (again, using dos4ntfs off the hiren disk) but that produced nothing. I haven't had any malware/viruses in years and noticed no strange behavior prior to this reboot. Any ideas?[Edited on December 23, 2008 at 5:20 AM. Reason : .]

contrary to popular belief, windows is fairly stable. long story short something in the registry corrupted when I added another disk (fucked up the drive letters) and I had to repair somethings.

PEBKAC Error

The error lies perhaps juxtapositioned in betwixt said board of keys and four legged sitting device upon which the user of said board of keys has rested his posterior
