i personally don't think this band isn't good enough to have 1 thread, let alone multiple

thanks for supporting the cause and posting

PSH I SO POSTED THIS iIN ANOTHER THREAD ALREADY TUFF GUY. but yea im cool with it, i think we had one for the last album. I will bug blake incessantly to hear some of these demos they record there. still one of my favorite bands. I've really enjoyed every album they have done and I feel that each album is pretty unique compared to a lot of modern metal bands out there.[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 12:17 AM. Reason : ]

i'm just saying, really. there are tons of bands that only a few of us care about that I like.. and i don't go around starting new threads about them, especially if threads already exist.just sayin.
12/17/2008 12:19:40 AM
i felt it was appropriate tuff to have an official thread
12/17/2008 12:21:56 AM
well, if that's the case, i'm ok with it. i still reserve the right to not care about them.

lolthis thread, like all music threads, is made up of people who enjoy metal, and people who don't enjoy metal.that said, if you like metal at all, there is absolutely no chance you could say BTBAM isn't threadworthy.and THAT said, if you just don't like metal, go to your respective Kanye and Metallica threads.[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 9:11 AM. shevanel cut a flip ftwTheir s/t album influenced me more on guitar than any of their other albums. Actually, after wanting to start a band for years and years and years, I think it was when I first started listening to them in HS that I said, "ok enough procrastinating, I need to start a band" [Edited on December 17, 2008 at 9:17 AM. i would like someone to attempt to explain to me why the screeching is appropriatebecause it sure as hell doesn't convey any emotion other than perhaps brattiness
12/17/2008 11:42:05 AM
I look forward to this.
12/17/2008 11:44:13 AM
because old school punk/hardcore didn't have melody so they angrily spoke the words. then people progressively got better and better at screaming? sometimes the emotion is beating the fuck out of your instrument/voiceI'm Big Business and i approved this message.

heres the thing vinyl, regardless of how it originated, the fact remains that a lot of these parts that are written in modern metal that have screaming over them would totally lose their value or just not sound the same with singing over them. you would just have to go without any vocals over them. Sure bands like Dio with an amazing vocalist and less aggressive music can sound great with clean singing vocals on top of their music. but if you're writing a part to just be heavy as balls, clean singing just totally swings it several notches away from heavy, especially live.as an example, i love when bands like opeth and btbam have people in their band with great normal singing voices and can mix it up to cater to that as well, but you'll see that there are generally very distinctly different parts that they write with the intention of singing on top of as opposed to riffs the vocalist is screaming on top of. it is just hard to pull off singing on top of some of these kinds of riffs.
12/17/2008 12:16:18 PM
i guess i'm just not sure that i buy thati'm not asking for soaring dio notes, just something that doesn't make me fall over laughing at how silly it isi can understand how that might take the brutality down a notch or two, but it also takes the unintentional comedy down by about twelve notches*shrug*please note that i do love a good scream here and there...the beginning of "loose" by the stooges or some karen o stuff, so it's not a bias against things that aren't clean singing ]
12/17/2008 12:19:31 PM
and i can completely understand that. the only thing that I can say in return is that, unfortunately metal is different from some other types of music. In general you can have an REM or Radiohead or nirvana come along and put out an album and that is music written for people who like music. Metal is almost certainly written for people who already like metal and modern metal incorporates a lot of screaming. You know as a metal artist that your possible fanbase takes a huge causality the minute you know what kind of musical direction your band wants to go in.I think there is just a point where a music fan hears screaming in music [as the main vocal output] and said "I can take this" or "I can't take this" and from that point on there won't be any mind changing on either side of the fence. And neither is right or wrong its just individual preference. The first CD I ever bought was deftones - "adrenaline" in like 95 or 96 (I was 11) and it had a fair amount of screaming on it and I didn't think anything of it. From that point on I've been exposed to it so much for like 13 years and I think nothing different of it than I do regular singing.[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 12:32 PM. Reason : ]

We should make a thread every time BTBAM takes a shit.
12/17/2008 12:31:26 PM
or just every few years when they put out an album. also they get extra love since they are from here
12/17/2008 12:34:12 PM
i was just saying bands like the exploted, bad brains, black flag didn't have melodic vocals.i'll give you $500 if you can come up with a melodic vocal line that fits the music / lyrical style than harsh vocals. I would consider those bands to be the pioneers of melodic death metal, and still for the most part clean vocals do not fit as well as the harsh ones, the same way angrily talking as fast as possible worked for bad brains and falsetto/softer screaming worked for king diamond.I think Opeth & Enslaved are prime examples of bands that can use both clean/harsh vocals, not interchangeably but where they fit. Some bands tend to think that when the double bass stops and they pull out the acoustic guitars that its the only time that clean vocals could possibly work in metal, but thats not the case and is usually a cop out.I'm Big Business and i approved this message./]

will goodyear (original drummer) did clean vocals on a lot of the stuff on the first album (though tommy did some)tommy did all the clean vocals on the silent circus and alaska for the most partTommy did most of the clean vocals on colors but their bass player Dan and guitar player paul did some layer work and live all 3 of them do clean vocals. Specifically Paul has been doing a lot of the clean vocals live when they play stuff off of the self titled/first album.PSNC State gym clothes ftw[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 3:01 PM. Reason : ]

s/t is the only one I don't have. I need to get it. Maybe best buy trip after work? But yeah I agree with you, I really like a mix of screaming and clean vocals. It took me awhile to get into it though. Trivium has a good mix on their 1st and 3rd albums. Their 2nd album was all clean and it wasn't the same. Like you said it lost that heavy feel.^ Yeah he is wearing that during the interviews on the Silent Circus DVD iirc[Edited on December 17, 2008 at 3:05 PM. Reason : .]

(talking about s/t)and also, i can't find the picture that went with this article that came out awhile ago, but someone got news reported to them by phone and misheard their name when typing an article

i just watched the colors dvd last night and it was freaking awesome. i was surprised at how good the sound was! i wish they'd focused a little less attention on tommy, though. i was kind of disappointed when i didn't get to see an awesome drum fill, guitar riff, or bass line because the camera was focused on the guy with a microphone just standing there.the second set is epic. song selection A+++++.

Yeah, there is certainly a difference between people with different preferences and people with bad taste. Even if you don't like BTBAM, you must admit that liking them is a different preference, as opposed to liking Nickelback/Staind/mostshitonmainstreamradioormtv, which is obviously an exercise in horrible taste.
