Thought I was dying this morning when I woke up, had to go to the ER to get em to shoot me up with some good stuff while that 6mm fucker worked its way down to my bladder
12/16/2008 1:02:14 PM
lay off the coffee/soda/your favorite vice, man!
12/16/2008 1:03:13 PM
damn that sounds painful
12/16/2008 1:03:39 PM
i was gonna say that a narcotic injection is a little unnecessarybut 6mm is pretty damn big, i hate it for ya
12/16/2008 1:03:41 PM
I thought for most kidney stones, they'd break them up into pieces for you to pass?
12/16/2008 1:04:54 PM
This girl was at the dog park the other day going trough kidney stones. she was heading to the hospital for treatment an hour or two later. She felt bad keeping the dog locked up in case she was at the hospital for a while. It looked painful. She spent the whole time hunched over while we were talking.

Toradol is amazing. It relieves kidney stone pain in seconds.I wish that they sent me home with Toradol instead of narcotics. Kidney stones are awful. I had passed a few 2 years ago. Still have some just hanging out in my kidneys waiting.Save the stone and let them analyze it. Not all stones are from drinking too much soda, tea, etc. because mine aren't.And no, they do not break most stones up for you to pass them. Urologists only do that if you are like unable to stand the pain or the stones are too large for you to pass. It took me 10 days to pass mine.[Edited on December 16, 2008 at 1:12 PM. Reason : .]

toradol? really? i used to get toradol injections for back pain and it didnt last that long. i thought narcotics were a lot more effective
12/16/2008 1:12:59 PM
mine are usually calcuim related, even though i stay away from milk, ice cream, etci will not give up coffee, i drink on average a pot a day, along with at least a half gallon of water, not big on sodas anyway
12/16/2008 1:13:42 PM
Yes. Seriously. The nurse explained to me that it might seem strange that they were giving me Toradol, but the relief is honestly instant. They say that is usually a dead give away that you have kidney stones. Narcotics didn't do shit for my pain. When my grandfather had kidney stones, morphine didn't even phase him because the pain was so intense.
12/16/2008 1:15:09 PM
i used to average at least 2L of soda per day, then i cut back on the soda and added a bunch more coffee. and now i really dont take a lot of eitherbut i never had a kidney stone ever. thank god. i must have been super lucky.^yeah dont get me wrong, it definitely works. id have such bad pain that i couldnt move and it would help instantly. but it just didnt last that long by itself. it was mainly used to get me through until i could get a percocet prescription filled. but thankfully i dont have any pain issues anymore. cause im pretty much not "allowed" narcotics anymore until i'm old cause of drug abuse and what it did to my natural pain system thingy]

69, the worst thing that you can do is stay away from calcium. Do you have a urologist????? They use to tell you to stay away from calcium, but they've found that it makes it worse. Your body will pull calcium from your bones to make kidney stones.
12/16/2008 1:16:12 PM
A narcotic injection is most definitely necessary if a stone is on the move.Toradol is ok, but there are a lot better things they can give you. Toradol might last an hour or two, but the other stuff lasts at least 3 hours and you take a trip to the moon Make sure you get them to write you a prescription for pain. Don't sugarcoat your description of it either. Say "On a scale of 1-10, this is a 12." Don't settle for regular Vicodin - Lorcet all the way! I'd even attempt to get Percocet if you have a cool doctor.
12/16/2008 1:17:44 PM
hope you feel better
12/16/2008 1:18:04 PM
When you pass it, get your picture taken next to the toilet! [/Squirt]

lorcet is vicodin. usually a little stronger, but the exact same chemicals. more hydrocodone, less acetaminophenvicodin + vicodin = lorcet + tylenol

My Dad has TERRIBLE kidney stones. This time last year he had 12 in each kidney, the largest ones were 8-13mm in diameter. He's had four lithotripsy surgeries (where they break it up with some kind of a shock wave) and he had one invasive surgery in November (it did NOT go well). He's going in for another lithotripsy on Thursday. Apparently he's had the stones for as long as 18 years, so the kidney grew around them (hence why the surgery to remove them did not work). But now they're blocking some of the tubes, so they're becoming dangerous. So, pretty much, he's been in a constant state of pain/passing kidney stones for a year now. Poor Daddy.

Vicodin and Percocet and Darvocet. . .in 10 days, I tried everything. They didn't do anything for my pain. The only thing that brought relief was Toradol. Unfortunately, it's an injection and it doesn't last forever, but it was the only thing that worked.I didn't have insurance to pay for surgery for my stones, so I had to wait and wait and wait. I thought that I was going to die. I have never barfed so much in my life.

^^^Don't want to make out like you're a drug shopper by saying "I need Hydrocodone 10/650. You know, the blue pills with 6350 on them."
12/16/2008 1:22:09 PM
If you have kidney stones, especially more than once. You need to see a urologist. I found out that I have a metabolic problem that causes my kidney stones and had to make some changes to my diet. I also have a large cyst in one of my kidneys that the doctor monitors along with the multiple stones that I have in both of my kidneys.
12/16/2008 1:23:14 PM
hahah i guess you have a point. but unless youre severely abusing vicodin and taking more than 8 a day, then the acetaminophen really isnt a big deal. most pillheads just extract the stuff anyways.plus if you are gonna "seek" you should just get the vicodin first, then call back the next day and say you need something stronger
12/16/2008 1:24:27 PM
that's a good ideabrb, calling doctor
12/16/2008 1:25:56 PM
Doctor TWW says quit being a pussy and take it like a man.
12/16/2008 1:26:24 PM
Only problem is that after you take the vicodin and they don't work, you are in pain and too fucked up to drive. I wish vicodin was taken off the market, all it does is make me to sleepy to call and bitch out the doc because it's not doing a damn thing.

I miss your retarded comments.

Signed. I've passed 3 rocks before. Haven't heard from the other guys on deck yet.

This thread makes me glad my stone was in my salivary duct and not a kidney.

Drink lots of beer when the pain starts.
3/28/2013 6:11:04 PM
damn thing's in a holding pattern right now. Just sitting there, letting me know it's there and the fun is about to start
3/28/2013 6:23:47 PM
Can't tell for sure that I had one, but I made the mistake of getting checked out at student health for them to say "everything looks fine, we're gonna give you an STD test" that in all ended up costing me over $200. All that happened was I woke up and got some damn sharp pains coming from a kidney one morning. The residual pain subsided after 5-10 minutes, when I made my way to student health.I had been drinking a decent amount of coffee (4+ cups a day) leading up to it. Never pissed anything out, never had another issue past that episode...but I'll be damned if I ever want to feel that pain again. I can't ever recall getting clammy and almost passing out from pain like that before.

Drink lots and lots of water. And walk to get it to move. A heating pad helps me get to sleep when I have a flare. Save the stone to have it analyzed to find out your stone type. If your doctor recommends it, a 24 hours urine collection is very helpful.
3/28/2013 11:58:41 PM
oh god, this thread has me living in fear since i drink like 4 or 5 cans of diet coke a day
3/29/2013 12:39:51 AM
interesting fact: kidney stones, like most salt crystals, have edges and angles exceeding razor blade sharpness and hardness by set degrees.you are pissing obsidian, holmes. good luck
3/29/2013 1:18:25 AM
Had a "nice" piss this morning. And by "nice", I mean "painful as fuck."
