like that canned fruit cocktail. isn't mass produced, preservatived food products of the devil now? but it's still fruit, right. so does the fruit goodness outweigh the poisonous chemicals or does it not work that way

preparation leads to loss of nutrients

not that i know specifics but method of prep and even storage determines what nutrients are left for consumptive benefit

they have most of the fruits in 100% juice these days (as an option at least). i don't know how much better that is. but it seems like it would be.

They have lite ones that are like 45 calories per can and roughly 12g of sugar. While it might not be your best source of fruit it's exponentially better than a candy bar or a lot of other things if you're looking for something sweet.

I buy fresh fruit but I think he is allergic to the peeling of all fruits. His sister has the same problem he does.
I can't eat that stuff in the can too much bc it really does jack my sugar up. I do eat mandarin oranges in the can.

I eat a lot more fresh fruit than canned stuff. Right now I have oranges, apples, and cantaloupe in the fridge and I finished a box of grapes this a.m., but every once in a while I'll down a syrupy can of fruit cocktail when I want something sweet. It's so good if you keep it in the fridge.

if you can find fruit cocktail canned in juice without added sugar, go for it. you will still get a lot of nutrients.

but if it is in syrup, i would suggest draining out the syrup and then rinsing the fruit under running clean water, and then eating the fruit.

or, you know, just eat some fruit. of all the fruits out there, you don't like any?

apples
pears
oranges
bananas
clementines
mandarins
kumquats
lemons
limes
pomelo
tangerines
ugli fruit
grapefruit
grapes
passion fruit
peaches
plums
apricots
pineapples
mangoes
strawberries
blueberries
raspberries
blackberries
gooseberries
loganberries
cranberries
lingonberries
huckleberries
mulberries
bilberries
boysenberries
açaí berries
breadfruit
jackfruit
cherries
pomegranates
durians
lychees
mangosteen
persimmon
rhambutan
papaya
prickly pear
melon
watermelon
custard apple
avocados
red currants
kiwifruit
guavas
quince
star fruit
dragonfruit

figs
dates
nectarines
olives
bell peppers
cucumbers
pumpkin
squash
tomatoes
eggplant
okra
zucchini

none?

why are you peeling fruits? vast majority of fruits can and should be consumed with the skin.

most of the nutrients in a fruit are found in and just under the skin.

the skin of a guava contains like 5 times as much vitamin C as a whole orange, and 9 times as much fiber.

that's interestingly weird.

so if you peel the fruit, he can eat it without any problem?

allergic to ALL fruit peel, or certain fruits' peel? cuz i can't see what's common to the peel of all fruits. and what happens if he eats the peel?

SHIT

You consider cucumbers, squash, and okra fruits? Hmm.

Most fruit that can be eaten with the peel (try that with a grapefruit or a pineapple...) I do, but I take the skin off my peaches. The fuzziness weirds me out.

was that directed at me? I am a person that would eat only fruit if I could survive off it alone.
I love all fruits on that list except the pear.

[Edited on March 31, 2009 at 4:33 PM. Reason : I even eat the skin of kiwi!!!! ]

^ of course not, that was directed at qntmfred. he said he doesn't like fruit. and you got me beat by eating the skin of kiwis. i have tried it several times, but without success. it is not the hairiness/fuzziness, but the fact that it is bitter.

^^believe it or not, it IS possible for a number to be classified into more than 1 set.

example, 3 is a natural number, whole number, integer, rational number, real number, and a complex number.

^^^ yes, botanically, they are fruits. there is no such thing as a 'vegetable', scientifically speaking. us humans call any part of a plant a vegetable if it is typically cooked before eating. vegetables includes some fruits, leaves, roots, shoots, flowers, etc.

yeah the fuzziness gives me the gag reflex if i am not careful, but i have overcome it and have figured out a way to make it easier. i take the skin off, and fold it on itself, fuzziness inside. then i put it in my mouth and chew. after a second, the fuzziness is destroyed and you can chew some more and swallow it.

I feel bad for my friend bc she is allergic to mango and that is her absolute favorite fruit. She wasn't until she ate the mango like an apple, skin and all. Her lips swelled so much. She look like she had work done her lips.

damn... i feel bad for people who are allergic to any food.

anyway, have you had a golden kiwi? 4 differences between it and the regular kiwi.

golden brown skin
smooth skin
pale golden yellow flesh
SWEET flesh, not tart or astringent at all

I HAVE!! It is way easier to eat than the fuzzy one. I could prob eat my weight in kiwis if they weren't so acidic.
