anways im thinking of installing sliding doors in my parents house as a favor, anyone done any project like this,
ive never done this and was wondering if its a good idea to tackle this project or let a pro do it

yeah, most require you to alter the frame. thats just what ive experience. im assuming nowadays they should be common measurements to make the job easy.. but who knows

this would go into the wall, so i'd may have to adjust wiring and the frame, from what i've seen online

also there is a type that slides on the outside of the wall but that wont work for me

that is going to be a pain because you will most likely need a temp wall to support everything above and you will have to throw in a header and some jack studs

^it depends on the wall

a load bearing wall is gonna take a little extra work with bracing while you install the door

but either way, you'll have to tear away a large patch of drywall to install the frame.......the door should come with decent instructions, since its a rather common home modification nowadays

well since it is a door, a sliding one at that, im 99% sure it will be installed on an exterior wall which by default will be load bearing

Pocket doors are a pain in the ass. Just don't be a retard like me and nail your chair moulding up with 2 inch nails while the pocket door is in the wall. I had scratch my dumbass head a long while to figure out how to get that fucker out again.

yes it is a pocket door,
but this is seeming like a project i may not be able to do
i may rather just try to invent a new ingenious door that functions like a sliding door without the messy installation

How about a bifold closet door? Just screw a track to the top of the door frame and you're good to go.

if it is a weightbearing wall, then yo9u need to install a long ass header, and you're gonna have to take out and reframe an opening twice the size of the door for a pocket door
