There was someone in classifieds with an ad for massages at a decent price. They make house calls too. I'm sure they wouldn't mind driving to Durham for a lil extra $bucks.[Edited on December 7, 2008 at 8:41 PM. Reason : a]

96rock is forever advertising for Massage Envy, and I gotta be honest I think I'm gonna give it a try when I get my xmas bonus.

These guys are in Cary, but it's totally worth the drive from Durham.http://www.moonshadowmassage.com/I've been to a couple of different places and these guys are definitely the best I've ever been to.I have an injured ankle, and when I tell most places this they avoid it, because they don't have employees trained in dealing with injuries. Moonshadow though deals with physical therapy on a regular basis and really helps my ankle.[Edited on December 7, 2008 at 8:48 PM. Reason : grammar]

Mtan do you think that price is fair? average?
12/7/2008 8:54:28 PM
check to see if your insurance will cover it. at one of my old employers, our plan covered up to four massages per month if you have a prescription from a doctor saying it's for treatment of pain rather than just being for relaxation.
12/7/2008 9:24:39 PM
Compared to what i've done in the past..yes. They typically are a few dollars, and I do mean just a few dollars, more, but its more than worth it. Most massages are about $1 a minute, and they are a little over that. They do give student discounts if you're still in school, or at least have an ID that hasn't expired.
12/7/2008 9:33:37 PM
every since Ive been in wilmington I go to Miller Motte like the little cosmo college...and get $25/hr Massages from the students and most everytime its been pretty damn good for 25 bucks, and they wont let you tip them
12/7/2008 9:33:47 PM
yea i checked and i have cigna and basically they arent going to cover it. besides this thing is so bad right now i would pay the extra 30 or whateverwhat should i tip?[Edited on December 7, 2008 at 9:35 PM. Reason : mmm]
12/7/2008 9:34:03 PM
15% is pretty standard I think.
12/7/2008 9:39:27 PM
there is a miller motte or whatever in cary and i heard from a girl that goes there that they have a coupon right now that you can call and ask about. im looking forward to going myself.

Massages arent going to help much with joint pain, only muscle pain. You need to take some motrin for muscle pain and stop working out with it for now.Massages are good for getting rid of knots etc in your muscles, but not medically resolving anything more than that. What is wrong with your shoulder and have you thought about having a cortisone shot?[Edited on December 7, 2008 at 10:26 PM. ok i pmed her hope she gets back to me soonwhen i say my shoulder its not the joint...its that whole area...so yea it is the muscle, i dont know what i did to it but its been horrible the past 2 weeks. i think its stress or something. its bad enough that heat and typical friend massages wont help it, i think it needs to be worked on professionally
12/7/2008 10:31:14 PM
If its the whole area then its more than just the muscle. Review anatomy of the shoulder. Everything is associative. Muscle problems can also effect tendons, and in the case of joins can even effect ligaments. If tendons are effected, then damage to cartilage can ensue. All of this is far beyond what a massage is going to do for you. In the least you need to be seeing a chiropractor who usually have massage therapists on staff. They will advise accordingly. Your insurance should cover seeing a chiropractor. The shoulder is arguably the most complicated joint and needs to be assessed by someone with more training, experience, and education than a 6 month training period. Assuming of course they are not a LBMT.

my roomate suggests i see a chiroprator but i dont know any of them that are good as well and i think i need to see someone asap
12/7/2008 11:01:08 PM
Your insurance company should be able to refer you

^^for what its worth, back when i used to play basketball and baseball as a teenager, i had a really bad shoulder problem from the left side to about the middle of my back. it was brutal. i got referred to a chiropractor in cary, i forget his name, he had an office close to the cary community center. It definitely helped a ton! It didn't get fully fixed until baseball season ended and i got to rest it, but going to the chiropractor a few times made a very big difference, i highly recommend it.

I have a friend who runs a massage business. She has taken all sorts of classes and stuff. I always ask her husband if he ever gets a massage, or is it like the Seinfeld episode where he dates the masseuse who refuses him constantly.
12/8/2008 10:46:58 PM
Massage envy has a membership program. its like 49$ a month but you get one massage a month and any additional are 39$
12/8/2008 11:06:03 PM
ncsu gym -- $30 for 30 minutes, $50 for an hour .. no tipping

Do these places guarantee that the chick doing the massage is hot?
12/10/2008 10:41:01 PM
no but the one i had was easy on the eyes although half the time i was face down and the other half i couldnt look her in the eye
12/10/2008 11:28:55 PM
i have never had a hot girl give me a massagei prefer the bigger girls for massages b/c they have really strong hands lol dont get it twisted though...thats the only time i prefer a big girl to touch me
12/11/2008 12:03:13 PM
I don't know if anyone's mentioned this, but if you're still an NCSU student, you can do massages at Carmichael.http://ncsu.edu/stud_affairs/campus_rec/fitness/massage-therapy/rates-policies.phpI went to somewhere, but I will NOT recommend them. The person that did the massage was great, very friendly, but her boss? Absolute BITCH. I could hear her talking about me while I was sitting in the waiting room.(Aw man, someone already mentioned it, ah well)
12/11/2008 2:35:53 PM
what do u guys wear for massages?
12/11/2008 4:26:57 PM
^ Robe first and then nothing. They'll usually partially cover you with a blanket and then work on exposed areas.I don't want to sound like an elitist, but I got a massage recently at The Umstead in Cary and it was PHENOMENAL! If more people routinely received professional massages, I honestly believe the world would be a better place.BTW, I asked for the lotion instead of the oil because I didn't want to be so slippery. I also skipped the hot stones and opted for 50-minutes (I could should have chosen 75 minutes) of targeted areas. In addition, I told the masseuse to bring the pain--and she put the hammer down! I couldn't believe that skinny girl could apply that much pressure--but she couldn't apply too much for me.And the masseuse used all sorts of techniques (no "happy ending"). Among other things, she would lay down her entire forearm and slide it from my butt cheek all the way up my back and off my neck near my ear; she would roll her knuckles at the base of my skull; and she massaged my arms, hands, legs, and feet. Oh, sweet Jesus--it was glorious! The Umstead Spa massage receives my highest recommendation.
