New week, new thread, new possibilities. Monday night's Jags vs Texans won't effect next weeks possibilities so I'm going ahead and posting them now:

Conference:
TITANS can clinch Playoff Berth by winning OR New England AND Miami losing
TITANS can clinch first-round bye by winning AND Jets losing
GIANTS can clinch first-round bye by clinching the NFC East title.

Potential Eliminations
49ers, Raiders, Browns, Chargers, Jaguars, Texans

Previously Eliminated
Lions, Bengals, Seahawks, Rams, Chiefs

If the season ended today, the NFC South gets 3 teams in the playoffs, NFC East only gets 1.

Who's the strongest now!?

^^^In South vs. South matchups, the home teams are 8-0, which means just about every team is guaranteed one win and one loss. Yet in the east, the Giants are likely to sweep meaning all the other 3 teams will have 2 guaranteed losses and no certainty against each other. This means that the South has a one-game advantage over the East (excluding the Giants), so overall records are not the best judge of supremacy. The best example of this are the 6-5-1 Eagles, who against everyone outside their division are 6-2-1. Take a look at how each division has done against the rest of the league:

East: 24-7
South: 24-8

This makes the case that the two are even, so let's go head-to-head for the tie-breaker:
Redskins def. Saints
Eagles def. Falcons
Cowboys def. Buccs
Giants are yet to play the Panthers, but when they do the playoffs should be locked up so it will be questionable if the game will even be played to full potential (as great of a matchup as it actually is)

Case and point, the East wins.

ESPN Power Rankings have the South averaging 9.2 and the East 9.7, pretty damn close. But those rankings are based on overall record and performance, and don't take into account losses from within the division. As I mentioned earlier, the Eagles would seem like an awesome team at 6-2-1, and that victory over the Falcons didn't seem like much at the time but now seems huge. The Saints (also in last place in their division) are 5-3 against the rest of the league, and NO wins against non-South teams with winning records. The Eagles at least had 3 wins against winning teams (Arizona, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta) with a clean sweep of the NFC West.

Eagles beat Rams, Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, Steelers, Falcons (combined 32-40, .444)
Saints beat Chargers, Raiders, Chiefs, Packers, 49ers (combined 18-42, .300)

From top to bottom, the East wins again with statistical evidence.

I forgot to mention at the start of the post that the Steelers can also clinch a playoff berth if:

Steelers win
AND
Patriots lose
AND
either Dolphins lose OR Jets lose.
