Ok so my company sent me to India for some training and gave me some paid vacation time. In US, I thought this was great but now my training is almost over and I m wanting to come back early. My ticket is to return in next 2 weeks. I checked the date change policy and it says I will have to pay some kind of penalty. Is there anyway to get out of this penalty? My boss said it's unlikely the company will pay for the date change penalty since they paid for ticket and living expenses.

Help please, thanks.

is the extra 2 weeks of living expenses not less than the change fee? that seems like an easy argument to me

I can make more working back in US during the 2 weeks and honestly I m sick of this place. Food is delicious but the place is just not clean. There are rats and stray animals all over the place. I have been sick since day 2 in India don't know what it is but I got fever and the shits. Penalty is $200 which is not too much but if some of you international travelers know a trick or two, let me know.

I miss United States

so your company is paying more or less than $200 for you to be there for 2 more weeks

if they are paying more - i can't imagine any circumstances where it'd be less - then it's more cost effective for them to pay the fee - have you not told them that?

i'm really surprised you haven't thought of this

I think what Omar is trying to say is this: Surely the cost of your living expenses for two weeks costs your company more than the two hundred is will cost to change your ticket. This shouldn't be a difficult argument to have with your boss if you can end up saving the company money.

If that doesnt go over well, you will likely have to just suck it up and pay the $200 or stick it out in India for two more weeks. I've been in this situation many times before and when I wasn't traveling on full fare tickets, I had to pay. If you are planning on working in the US for the two weeks that you would otherwise be on vacation, perhaps that more than makes up for the $200

Suck it up, stop being a pansy-ass spoiled American, and go see some of the wonders of the world. This might be a once in a lifetime opportunity to travel around Asia on someone else's dime, and you're going to cash in because you've got the runs? Bitch, please.

^yea seriously

unless you have some serious illness, go find some meds to calm your system and then take the next two weeks to check the place out, see some cool shit, experience that part of the world.

sure there might be rats and stray animals and horrible conditions, but guess what?

you're not in the US, you are in a foreign place, with a foreign culture and foriegn ways...EXPERIENCE them! it will make you enjoy/appreciate the US that much more when you do get back

buy some gifts for friends and family also, they will appreciate it

eh its his life, if I remember his last thread, hes already been there for a few weeks. If he is sick and not enjoying it I can't blame him for not being excited to "experience" more. Sure it might not be worth the penalty to come back early and he should probably just suck it up but its kind of silly to knock on someone for not wanting to stay somewhere longer in this situation.

also which city are you in? might wanna watch out:

Reading comprehension folks. He said he went to India for training, not to train someone.

you drank the water didn't you.

get a local doc to prescribe you a broad spectrum antibiotic and you'll start feeling better in a week or 2, just in time to come home.

you are building up a tolerance to their bugs.

I'm pretty sure you don't need a prescription to get antibiotic in India. With that said, just go to the pharmacy there and get Cipro 500 mg. Take one pill every time you have a diarrhea and you're set.

RATS? where are you living ? in some slum area or what? i agree there might be rats in some areas but i wasnt expecting you to be staying or roaming in those areas

when someone is really sick then no one thinks so much before spending $200. You are in India so chill and do what the guy has mentioned above take some ....... think positive you need not pay to doctor for prescription.

or pay penalty come back to US and stop posting shit about India.
I have said in another thread too that you are Indian
so come back and beware of Indian students here they are already waiting for you to come back

I've had several friends go to India and one defining feature for all of them seems to be the rats and stray dogs. I seriously doubt it's a rare occurrence Most areas with limited animal control departments experience the same thing. Just look at Guam

Cippro no longer works in India and Thailand. You have to use a z-pack these days. Hope the people that gave you all your shots and meds before you left gave you a heads up on that one.
