So my car receiver is "XM ready" - with the new merger can I get Sirius on it?? I asked the Circuit City Tech Guy waaay before the merger and he said no b/c they had different "signals"

what's the deal now?

they have all the same content now

so if you get XM, you get some of the sirius channels that survived the merger

Short answer, no.

Long answer, Sirius and XM have different breeds of satellites requiring different chip sets in their receivers. The current generation of receivers for each company does not allow for interoperability among the satellites despite the merger of the companies. Aficionado is partially correct however in that they have mostly the same content as of November 12th. There are slight differences here and there, mostly each network has their unique set of sports/talk/news stations. XM definitely has more sports coverage and what I feel is the better value in terms of all services now, but that's just my opinion.
