For the last 8 years, I have supported President Bush. I haven't always agreed with him, despite what you may think (I am "brainwashed", etc.). We went through 9/11, and subsequently went to war with Iraq and Afghanistan, which I supported wholeheartedly. We were told that our government lied to us, but nonetheless, I supported my President. Illegal immigration continued at record numbers as our infrastructure sagged at the weight that those people are causing by their failure to pay taxes, yet my President did nothing. I still supported my President. I watched as Enron fell, as Halliburton rose, as Blackwater operated, and I supported my President. I watched as OPEC had us by the balls, and Oil companies gouged prices, while the Government stood by. I still supported my President. Later, I watched as our economy faltered due to over-eager companies giving too much money to people who lacked the personal responsibility to pay such a debt... to which the government responded by an unprecedented bailout that went against every free market principle for which I believe, and yet still, I supported my President.Last night, Barack Obama was elected, and will be inaugurated as, the President of my United States. His spoken policies wreak of socialism, giving the Government more say than ever before in what we do with our lives. He is pulling out of the war in Iraq, which makes the death of all of those soldiers, three of them friends of mine worth nothing. He has associated with evil, terrible men; he stands up for things such as abortion and homosexual unions, which I consider to be absolute abominations. I did not vote for him, and truly believe that he was voted for less on issues and more on rhetoric and skin color. But at the end of the day, we're all in this together. For 8 years, there was spite, there was hate, there was venom, and there was absolute evil spewed towards George Bush. It was classless, baseless, and devoid of decency in many cases. Yet nonetheless, it was deemed acceptable, and even justifiable, amongst those in the left. It is unacceptable behavior to me, and I will not engage in it. I will not do to Barack Obama what many of you did to George Bush. Barack Obama is my President. And I support him.[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 11:00 AM. Reason : more]

11/5/2008 10:53:50 AM

11/5/2008 10:54:57 AM
kudos to you.Hopefully many republicans share that same sentiment.

He is our prez now. All of us should hope he does an amazing job for this country. I will support him and oppose him if he does indeed try to pass some of his BS ideas, but we should all want the man to be a great president.

You won't have the same opportunities to bash Obama because he won't be a complete bumbling retard at every opportunity and an international embarrassment.
11/5/2008 11:15:59 AM
aaaaaaaand my point stands.[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 11:19 AM. Reason : i know what a sunk cost fallacy is, thx.]

I couldn't disagree more with the sentiment of this thread. If you don't like the President, speak up.

read closer.support /= agree withthat was the whole point.I'm just not going to call him a "douchenozzle faggot amoral piece of shit"oh jesus h. christ.look, a sunk cost fallacy relies on the basis that the initial investment is hopeless, or shortly thereafter becomes hopeless. I did not, and do not think, that the investment was hopeless, nor think it has become that way.[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 11:23 AM. Reason : k.]
11/5/2008 11:21:05 AM
If you constantly redefine the mission/cause for Iraq then of course it's not hopeless, it's an issue of semantics and linguistics.
11/5/2008 11:27:08 AM
So then answer my question:I mean, in all serious, what accomplishment are you looking for to making it look like they haven't died in vain? Was a snazzy "Mission Accomplished" banner not enough?Honestly, I think dying in service of your country is about the exact opposite of dying in vain.

Just because you support someone doesn't mean you can't critique them or point out their glaring faults.I support NC State football, but that doesn't mean I should ignore the reality of the situation.
11/5/2008 11:44:46 AM
This isn't going to last long.
11/5/2008 11:44:59 AM
I agree with you, I may not agree with Obama or his decisions, but he's very soon going to take over the office of the Presidency, and I'll support him while he serves. One of my friend's facebook status says:
11/5/2008 11:45:59 AM
^^^ I have no opposition to that. I'm all for criticism where necessary, but it needs to be done in a respectful manner. I know that if I'm traveling internationally and someone insults my president, I will take great offense to them insulting not only him, but our country as a whole, rather than laughing with the person and calling our president a fucktard[Edited on November 5, 2008 at 11:47 AM. Blind support is about as un-American as you can get.I bitched and poked fun at the idiotic things Bush did, and I will damn sure do it for Obama as well. The great thing about America is that you don't have to support somebody who is willfully fucking up your country.

I'm not sure I can go along with the idea that Republicans need to sit back and welcome the inevitable liberal shit storm. When Obama and his congress start doing the stupid shit that he has said they will do, I'll personally speak out against it. It's still politics as usual, and anyone that honestly believes that an Obama administration will "change Washington" needs to get real. With that said, I generally don't stoop to the level of the far left, with respect to personal attacks.
11/5/2008 4:38:43 PM
