I get tired of preordering shit that comes out on tuesday everywhere else and not being able to get it until wednesdaythat's some fucking bullshitalso, i get tired of them always "forgetting" your preorder freebies and having to "remind" them
11/3/2008 6:34:24 PM
when rock band first came out i went around looking for itgamestop wouldn't even order it for me, being the gaming specialty store that they are
11/3/2008 6:46:56 PM
So why do people preorder games?
11/3/2008 8:36:09 PM
i've never had problems ordering or buying anything from gamestop.. i go to the one beside hibachi xpress near crossroads...the main guy that works in there, can't remember his name but he has the northern accent...young, chinstraps, .... he is awesome
11/3/2008 8:44:36 PM
gamestop is always the last place I go to buy games. First place is always Best Buy so I can take advantage of reward zone and not buy the game from a shitty store...i.e. gamestop
11/3/2008 9:16:48 PM
http://www.steampowered.com not really an option for a lot of games, but if I game is on steam I'd definitely buy it there before anywhere else
11/3/2008 9:32:07 PM
the gamestop I go to always give me pre order keys B-)but I usually wait like a week and ask them if they have any extra
11/3/2008 9:58:17 PM
The one in Cary Towne Center has the worst PC selection ever. They have more PS2 games than PC games.Way to be relevant.
11/3/2008 10:00:48 PM
Try the new manager at the north hills store. he worked at the mall when i was working there a while back and he's always hooked me up with all sorts of rpg goodies.

I went there to pick up Rock Band 2 on release date."Do you have a preorder?"of course not"We don't have anymore unreserved copies"I'm completely convinced that was untrue. The employees there get some kind of incentive for preorders, so I guess this one was just trying to teach me a lesson, or something. But long story short, I had to go to Walmart to get my GAME, not the GAME store.Almost made me go home and sell all my GME stock, until I saw the guy in line next to me buying a used copy of Super Mario Galaxy for $45.99 Then I remembered why I have GME stock in the first place.[Edited on November 4, 2008 at 8:11 AM. After I get my COD5 off of pre-order I am about 99% sure that I am never buying from Gamestop again. The only advantage that they have over other places is that they take trade-ins, however I'd just rather sell them on eBay and make about the same or a little more just to help someone out and not help out a greedy company whose primary source of revenue is the sell of used games.
11/4/2008 8:11:45 AM
i've only shopped there twice in my lifetime. every game that i've ever purchased has either been from friends or ebay/craigslist. so much money saved and time saved.
11/4/2008 10:01:02 AM
I bought a "refurbished" xbox and it wouldn't read any fucking games or DVDs. I took it back the next day.
11/4/2008 10:05:13 AM
Another thing about GameStop is that they don't add taxes to MS points or to XBL subscription cards, everywhere does, which they are not suppose to. I told the guy about this in Target one day and he looked at me like I was crazy.
11/4/2008 10:05:56 AM
I never knew that, but I just buy my points thru xbox live, much easier that wayPS tho...if you your points in the store, you can get a free 1600 point card at CC this week if you get Gears 2
11/4/2008 10:49:06 AM
I don't want to give MS my CC info, just because its so hard to cancel if you ever need to.
11/4/2008 10:54:59 AM
fuck gamestop. they'll buy a used game for 20 dollars, and then sell it for twice that amount. a new game is 60 dollars, a used game is 55 dollars. that's fucking wrong no matter how you look at it. you can't justify a 5 dollar price difference for a used game considering that the game could be fucked up in some sort of way. I have never had a problem getting a game on launch day. Best Buy, Wal mart, and Blockbuster have ALWAYS had launch games on the street date. I had absolutely no problems whatsoever getting Smash Brothers, BioShock, Grand Theft Auto 4, Halo 3, Mario Galaxy, or any other game of the sort on the street date. Don't preorder from a shady company like GameStop. You can just roll up to Best Buy on the day of release, buy the game, walk out, and be done with it in less than 10 minutes rather than having to go through the bullshit of a greedy game company.
11/4/2008 1:35:07 PM
A-fucking-men
11/4/2008 1:36:26 PM
Buying something for 20 and selling it for 55 is an awesome business model if people are willing to buy them for that priceYou can't blame them for taking advantage of suckers
11/4/2008 1:38:06 PM
Yeah, but it all the other bullshit that makes you hate them, like having to remind them about pre-order swag for example.
11/4/2008 1:41:55 PM
Yeah that would bother me tooI just think when people get upset about their used prices its sillySure, none of us would pay 55 dollars for a used gamebut since some people are willing too, Gamestop would be stupid to charge less
11/4/2008 1:45:47 PM
Not really. I say that they would sale more used copies if they dropped to 50 for a used game. The fallacy of their current system is that for people like us we only buy a used game when its like 20-40 dollars, and that because it has sat on the shelf for a while when it could have quite possibly been move off of the shelf at the 50 dollar price point.
11/4/2008 1:48:36 PM
Good points. For less popular games, that would probably be the case. But I think AAA titles that are only a few weeks old move reasonably well even at 55.
11/4/2008 1:52:48 PM
Yeah, I can agree with that. Just like for example, Silent Hill Homecoming was even out for a full week after I beat it, I took it back and got 24 dollars for it, actually I got 29 for it only because I traded in two games and got an extra 10 for doing that.
11/4/2008 1:55:02 PM
Sure, GameStop can get away with selling a used game for 55. The problem is, if you don't want to pay that, where else are you going to go? With companies like FuncoLand, Buy Rite, Babbages etc etc being bought up or just fizzling out, there are no alternatives but places on the internet like eBay. Most people don't want to have to wait for their game to be shipped, so they pay the shitty used price because it is convenient. They don't sell it that high because it's a "smart business model", they sell it that high because there is no alternative store available that will give you a better deal more or less sell used games, period. GameStop and EB Games both do the same thing with their used games.
11/4/2008 1:57:44 PM
I typically only trade in to gamestop once a year during the summerI trade the previous years basketball and football games because those are about to become worthlessAnd a few other games that I don't play anymoreThey usually have some 20-30% bonus going on if you get store credit instead of moneySo that usually gives me enough to get NCAA and Madden for 'free' with a little left over
11/4/2008 1:58:14 PM
11/4/2008 2:00:50 PM
used games ARE $50. That's what the fucking card is for. If you buy more than 4 games a year it pays for itself. Also you never buy just 1 game. Wait for their bi-monthly buy 2 get 1 free (plus the card). This equates to 3 games for about 100 bucks. Their system works great just never trade anything in and always buy bulk.
11/4/2008 2:01:55 PM
I don't buy enough (used) games for their system to work for me.
11/4/2008 2:06:07 PM
i never sell back games because i like my collection - at least of ps2 and ps1 backwards compatible gamesand i won't by used games for $55 i will spring for $40 and under but thats itits just annoying everytime i go in there to buy a used game and have to hear the whole speel over and over againi would go to best buy but i fucking hate them after HSBC fucked me overi hate everyone
11/4/2008 2:07:01 PM
I feel that. This is how I sum it up - they can do what they want, but I am just pretty much never shopping there again, and I can say that with 99% certainty.
11/4/2008 2:16:17 PM
One of the reasons I hate GameStop is that they open the boxes and pull the keys out. I'm sure other places do it but twice I've bought a PC game from them then when I got home the CD key wasn't in the box. Drive back to GameStop, and they just pull open a drawer and get the key. How the hell do I know that one of your jerk employees didn't write the key down or something? Jesus, the key is what I'm paying for you jackasses.

I preordered Fallout 3 Super-Edition from them for $75, and prepaid in full. I drove there at midnight to find they had sold out. I fully refunded my money and bought it at Best Buy the next morning. It's shitty corporate management, in my opinion. The store manager simply wasn't shipped as many as he had sold, they're shipped just a fraction of them; because not everyone picks up their preorders. So In the future, instead of preordering 1 and prepaying in total for $75; I'm preordering 15, and when I get there I'm refunding 14 of those to pay for the 1.
11/4/2008 3:16:50 PM
It sucks all the cahins are owned by the same people now, monopoly ftl
11/4/2008 4:29:14 PM
yeah screw Gamestop, just use Goozex
11/4/2008 5:00:50 PM
The only thing enticing me atm is to preorder COD:WaW to get the M1A1. Plus, there are rumors they're going to allow ppl to pick up the game before the street date. (They did this for COD4 iirc.)Other than that, I hate walking in getting the "Want to reserve?" or "Do you have any trades?" speech.
11/4/2008 5:55:26 PM
and if bb/cc/walmart don't have it, go to toys-r-usthey have come through for me before
11/6/2008 12:12:54 AM
^^If you give in to the m1a1, then you are truly lost.
11/6/2008 7:53:47 AM
because they can make a huge profit not giving a shit about peopleit's wonderful
