Maybe someone here can help me. I have 2 19" LCD monitors, exactly the same. Today one of them makes a funny sound and turns off. I open it up, check the fuse, and eventually determine that the power supply (internal board) is dead. When I use the PS from the other monitor it works fine. The PS is supposed to provide the video board with 12 and 5 volts, it's only giving about 6 and 2. So, I wire in an external harddrive power supply that gives it 12 volts, 2 amps, and 5 volts 2 amps straight to the video board that needs the power. The power supply also powers the inverters that light up the backlight of the monitor, but I think it's separate...not really sure. All the big electronic components lead to the 12 and 5 volt leads. So I test it and it turns on, so I put it back together. It comes on perfectly for about 1 second, then turns off. I have tried with both power sources on, or just the new one, same result. The backlights seem to light without the original power source plugged in. Any ideas on what would make it cut off after 1 second?
