If I'm flying and I want to take a suit with me, should I carry it on or check it through at the desk? If I carry it with me and put it in the overhead storage, does it count as a carry-on?

I think that's something that's up to the person checking you in/flight attendant. Pack the pants, shirt, etc. in the carry on and just take the jacket with you to be safe. Yes you'd need to spend 10-15 minutes ironing your stuff at the hotel, but I'd stick with that rather than get told it'll be $15 for an additional carry on item. What airline?

If you want to make sure it gets to your destination with you, carry it on...plus airline baggage handlers have been known to rummage through bags and steal things out of them.

It doesn't matter if you put your suit bag under your seat or in the overhead bin...a carry on is a carry on.

keep in mind too that some airlines will let you do a carry-on AND a "personal item," like a purse or a bookbag. depending on how you pack, you could make use of a bookbag for whatever else you need.

Most of my business trips I take a carry on sized suitcase AND and backpack or briefcase.

I've flown Delta, US Air, Northwest, Continental in the last 2 months and they've all been ok with this.

carry it on in a lightweight garment bag thing

and when you get on the plane, ask the flight attendant if you can hang your suit up

they have a small closet where they put jackets for first class and sometimes the pilot coat

ive never had a problem hanging a nice garment, even when sitting coach. this as worked for me with bridesmaides dresses

If you're considering checking it, that means you don't really care if it makes it to your destination with you.

Never, ever check items that are absolutely critical that you can't replace before you need them. I thought everyone knew this.

Been a few years since I flew anywhere, I didnt really know what the rules were back then and anything I may have learned I have since forgotten. I do remember taking my laptop out of my bag, and taking my shoes off...



What kind of things can you not carry on now?

I know laptops are OK, done that before, and I know better than to have a knife or any tools in by bag, but what about an inkpen?

pens are fine in bag. you'll have to empty your pockets of stuff like that, so it may be better for them to be in your carry-on anyway.

3 oz or less of most liquids, except for bottles of beverages that you carry on by hand (once you're past security, i guess).

what are you planning to take?

yeah, or bring two big bottles, both labeled "SALINE". if they ask you why, just say " umm.... two eyes"

I fly every week. It is considered a carry on. I would suggest you pack most of the suit and cary the jacket. I pack my suit all the time and it come out ok, just be carefull in packing it and hang it when you get to you destination.

I do fly wearing the suit which is not as bad as it sounds.

they are really slack about what the consider as carry-on. Technically, you can have "one personal item, such as a handbag or laptop bag, and one carry-on item".

I regularly have a full backpack as my "personal item" with 2 laptops, books, and other stuff, then full sized carry-on suitcase.
My wife also sometimes carries bicycle wheels as a carry-on (when the rest of the bike is packed below the plane), which is way bigger than the supposed size limit
