We got our kitten spayed on Thursday morning. She slept a lot yesterday and seems to be more of her normal kitty self today. However, I've had a lot of trouble getting her to eat or drink today. So, I called the vet and, under their advice, I got some turkey and chicken baby food and tried that. She has eaten a teeny bit tonight which makes me feel a little better. Now I have one lingering concern. She cannot meow. She makes the face and moves her mouth, but no sound comes out. Is that normal? I was wondering if the whole not eating thing and the not meowing were related. She's still barely eating, but the vet said as long as she had a little bit that she would be fine. I was going to give her until Monday and see if her meow came back before calling the vet. Is this something that warrants a call tomorrow? I just didn't know if it was normal for a cat to lose her meow after surgery. Any knowledge on this subject would make me go

opposite ends. if they punctured a lung... i doubt it would be up and about. so na its probably fine. eating however... debatable as it might take her a bit to get appatite back. sleep is normal for the first day or so

Do they intubate animals during surgery? If they do, I know that it causes a pretty sore throat for people. My son has essentially lost his voice or gone very hoarse for a few days post surgery and it's from being intubated.

To answer the question...You already called the vet, and they said "A-OK." I know you are worried for your pussy, but it's needless worry. Your pussy is fine.

The vet did say everything was okay, but I failed to mention the meowing thing to them. I really didn't notice that she wasn't meowing until after I had spoken with the vet about the not eating thing. She had been sleeping so much and hadn't really tried to meow (not that I noticed anyway) until yesterday afternoon.I had thought about the intubation thing, which is one reason why I'm gonna wait until Monday to call the vet. Thanks for the reinforcing that thought for me She's still not able to meow this morning, so we will see if it gets better today or tomorrow. Thanks for the help!

I wish my cat couldn't meow. She never shuts up That said, I do kind of remember her being quiet for the first couple days after getting fixed, so I wouldn't really worry.

When one of our cats was a kitten, when we first got it, it wouldn't meow. It would move its mouth like it was trying to meow, but no sound came out. Now it meows as normal, although it's a more "squeaky" meow than you normally hear.I think the cat may just be a little nervous still about the operation, and will start to meow again in time.
