I was watching a guy make wagon wheels on PBS last night and it suddenly occurred to me why tires are called tires: The metal bands around the outside tie the wheel together. Literally, they are "tie"-ers.

Anyway, this old dude just built a fire in his backyard, heat stretched the metal band, beat it on the wood wheel and then threw the cold water to it. Meanwhile the entire wooden wheel has burst into flames from the heat. Hardcore.
