As a huge fan from the beginning (yeah, even the old school 2D version), I am eagerly awaiting this release. The more recent 3D were ridiculously fun to me. Although the new version has quite a few changes, I am really looking forward to what they have implemented. There is more focus on acrobatics and a lot less on combat. When there is combat, it is only against bosses... no regular minions (think Shadow of the Colossus, also an excellent game). It launches December 2. I finished up Sands of Time and Warrior Within but ended up skipping whatever the third one was. But this one has me very intrigued. Looks gorgeous.

I know what I'm getting myself for Christmas.
10/22/2008 12:56:37 PM
I have heard it's got a more free roam world than the others. Also, no minions to fight? I mean, I love the acrobatics, but I'll miss the fighting
10/22/2008 1:02:43 PM
i like the cel shaded look - overall the formula for the game has gotten boring to me so they better try many new things to get me to buy iti'm guessing this won't coincide with the release of the movie because they aren't making the prince look just like Jake (good call)
10/22/2008 1:13:41 PM
wait...are those actual in-game screenshots or is that concept art?
10/22/2008 2:07:39 PM
I'm pretty sure they are in game shots. They may be cutscenes, but based off the gameplay videos they aren't prerendered.ViolentMAW, from what I have gathered, they have changed it up quite a bit. The acrobatics are supposed to be a lot more fluid. Like in the last three, you could walk into a room and pretty much tell what you needed to climb up and swing from and figure out how to get to a certain point. After doing some reading, it seems like in this one you just kind of go with the flow and figure it out while you are going a long which gives it a lot more of an immersive feel. The combat is supposed to be a lot more detailed too. The AI supposedly learns from common techniques. So if you are being a turtle and blocking everything, they will try to push you off a cliff or pin you against a wall. If you are button mashing and just trying to hit over and over with the sword, they will learn and try and counter you. I thought that the lack of general bad guys was bad at first but I remembered that Shadows of the Colossus was like that too and it was an amazing game. Here is a gameplay video, with links to more on the right side menu:http://xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/890664/prince-of-persia/videos/princeofpersia_hd_1.html

looks amazing. I wouldn't mind it taking a few hints from SoTC. that game kicked so much ass.
10/22/2008 3:26:11 PM
i wonder if the magical woman can be controlled in co-opok the platforming looks mostly the same to me but the combat looks vastly improved as long as they make it challenging[Edited on October 22, 2008 at 3:40 PM. Reason : .]
10/22/2008 3:40:15 PM
will this be on the wii?
10/22/2008 4:49:03 PM
Yeah, here's some Wii screenshots
10/22/2008 11:51:04 PM
^hahaha pwnt.
10/22/2008 11:52:09 PM
^^lolBut seriously though, those games were awesome back in 1991. I remember running those from DOS on my dad's old Compaq 386.
10/23/2008 9:16:00 AM
this game is great
12/1/2008 8:39:57 PM
It got some pretty stellar reviews. I'm pretty behind on my games, I was gonna play Dead Space, then Mirror's Edge, then this, but after reading the reviews I'm gonna have to get this one first.
12/1/2008 10:57:51 PM
you rarely go 5 seconds without running a wall jumping a pole or something of that nature, the only exception is the temple where you return to open up new levels.

i finished sands of time but i think i got stuck somewhere in warrior within and never got around to finishing it... i think it was where you had that time limit after you put that mask on. Great games though.
12/2/2008 9:55:30 AM
Never beat sands of time but I enjoyed what I did play of it, this game looks sweet. Too bad it's not on Wii, I bet the controls would be fun.
12/2/2008 11:52:23 AM
I freaking loved Sands of Time, played the hell out of it.Warrior Within can kiss my ass. The controls are broken, making one of the boss fights impossible for me. I know it's not because I'm bad at video games; the freaking controls and the camera suck. They never should have listened to whiny Zelda fans bitching for boss fights and stuck with what works. It soured me so bad on PoP that I never even played the two thrones, even though I got both for Christmas one year.I'm approaching this game very cautiously, because I've seen first hand (Assassin's Creed) how Ubisoft Montreal can create a beautiful looking game with retarded ass combat. That game was a rental at best, and I'm guessing that this will be too. Also this:http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/934/934014p1.html
12/2/2008 1:43:47 PM
I only ever played the one where every once in a while you transformed into a demon with a insta-death time limit hanging over your head. Two Thrones I think. Would it be worth it trying to find the other two?^Oh, and if you hate Ubisoft Montreal for Assassin's Creed, then know this... they also made Far Cry 2. I had a decent amount of fun with AC, but FC2... man did they ruin that one. Then again there was no reason for that abomination to carry the Far Cry name, other than to turn a buck on name recognition.
12/2/2008 2:37:59 PM
huhI liked both AC and FC2
12/2/2008 10:56:12 PM
FC was terrible and AC got old after you realized you just did the same thing in every townI'm Big Business and I approved this message.
12/2/2008 11:00:32 PM
I loved Assassin's Creed combat, but mostly just because I was playing it without just spamming the attack button waiting to parry/kill.It was meant to be done by timing the moment at which your sword contacted the enemy's sword... but then they made it super-easymode by allowing people to just tap attack constantly until they got lucky. Also it's quite fun to play by challenging yourself to only use thows and the hidden blade. Not particularly hard, but much more fun than continuously mashing attack.Oh, and as for this new PoP game... I LOVE the art direction and visual style. Looks like it'll be amazing. Probably will only rent or borrow it, though. Eager to see what they've done with the platforming. Hopefully the "fluid" style of running/jumping/acrobatics won't also mean "easymode auto-vault over and around everything you see".[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:05 PM. Reason : .]

Assassin's creed could be the setting for the most awesome RPG ever.EVER.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:09 PM. Reason : The cities were awesome]
12/2/2008 11:07:51 PM
The "pseudo-futuristic but with timewarps into the crusades-era middle east with DNA memory" setting, or just the "crusades-era middle east" setting?
12/2/2008 11:09:15 PM
just the crusades setting.
12/2/2008 11:09:52 PM
I never played Sands of Time, Warrior Within, or Two Thrones. In fact, I've never played a PoP game period. Nor have I played Assassin's Creed or Far Cry 2 (although I played and hated the first one). Maybe I'll have to check this out.
12/4/2008 6:02:59 PM
I played through the first little city type area and it's pretty fun. The only thing I really don't like is how they changed wall-running -- it just seems... inaccurate now. Not terribly crazy about the combat though, but it's still early.
12/4/2008 6:39:06 PM
Picked it up today, enjoying it so far.
12/7/2008 6:03:48 PM
It's not on the Wii.
12/7/2008 6:20:57 PM
Played this a bit yesterday and this morning, the graphics are pretty awesome and the gameplay has been enjoyable.
12/7/2008 6:47:49 PM
I've always found PoP TOO scripted for me to really get in to.
12/7/2008 6:47:50 PM
I've laughed at a lot of the dialogue so far, it's been surprisingly good in my opinion.
12/7/2008 6:52:26 PM
Anyone tried this on computer? I just installed it, and there's no graphics options.-figured it out. config is outside the game buried in the program folder. Great game so far. [Edited on December 10, 2008 at 5:42 PM. Reason : .]

^^oh yeah. that took me a while. I think the alcohol didn't help.
12/11/2008 8:16:15 PM
Gamestop's selling it for $40 now. Must've gotten a little lost in the rush of holiday releases.
12/20/2008 11:59:36 AM
The maneuvers look amazing, but the game is easy to the point of being boring. Dear Ubisoft,Plz2 Assassin's Creed 2.<3,KR
12/21/2008 10:19:24 AM
^Yeah I heard something about how you can't actually die in the game. If you get hit too many times in combat or screw up a wall move, the sorceress chick will save you or something.
12/21/2008 11:00:17 AM
Basically think of it more along the lines of running around as though you had unlimited sand in Sands of Time. If you fall when doing a move, you get pulled back up by the woman you're traveling with. And, again, it's not like there was ever really a penalty for dying in Sands of Time anyway. You just went back to the last arbitrary save point. Now, instead, you just go back to the last piece of solid ground you touched, rather than just being able to reverse time to get you back onto the flagpole you just swung off of.I do miss the combat of SoT (and the little bit of Warrior Within I played) but that's kind of unrelated.[Edited on December 21, 2008 at 2:34 PM. I just bought this yesterday brand new, just can't get into it, looking to offload my copy for PS3. Entertaining any offers north of $35 for anyone interested.
12/21/2008 9:21:16 PM
Got this through gamefly, started it today. This is one of the worst games I have played.
1/13/2009 9:54:53 PM
Somewhat fun, but repetitive.
1/14/2009 12:53:00 AM
1/14/2009 2:04:10 AM
I'd say it's good up through the first play through but there is absolutely no incentive to playing the game a second time. Maybe to collect all 1001 things, but man that would be tedious and require revisiting the same spot over and over again. There were two failings IMO.1) What's already been mentioned. The inability to actually die. It really only ruins the combat though.2) The open world. The open world allows you to visit the levels in any order you wish, so they couldn't associate an increasing difficulty level as the game progressed. To me each level/city felt exactly like the one before, so the repetitive nature of the game came out to the forefront much sooner than it would have otherwise.Much of the game boils down to a rhythm game with a pretty facade. It's like guitar hero without the music where the 'notes' coming down just take the shape of a ring bolted into the side of the wall, worn spots, one of those colored wall plate things, etc. You just sit back and watch, making sure you press the correct color when your guy reaches a certain cue.

^ lol, that gets even funnier the longer you watch it

even apart from all of the repetitiveness, the free running is the worst i have ever seen in a game that incorporates it. It is not fluid at all, looking and feeling more like a frog sticking to the wall and hoping from spot to spot rather than an experienced parkour agent. Ninja Gaiden and Mirror's Edge both hit the free running much better. All of the acheivements are pretty annoying too. Most of them start with 'Congratualtions, you did X' where X is a cutscene or something you had to do. Seriously, a game that gives 10G for starting the game isn't going to go anywhere. "Congratulations, you started the adventure!"I might play another zone and see if this goes anywhere, but I'll probably send this back today or tomorrow and hope for GOW2.
