Serious question....let's say that I'm one of those people who earns jack shit..... what actually qualifies me to get the money? Do I apply for them like unemployment? But what if I'm an illegal immigrant? Do I need to show proof of anything like that I have a job or have held a job?

You apply at the same offices where they give out food stamps. Don't drive up in a BMW or they might get suspicious.

They will pay in Obama bucks:

God: Yes. I file taxes.

No, I'm not a fucking moron.

I was just trying to understand how the tax cuts are going to be given out and with what guards there will be to protect the abuse, much like the abuse of all government programs.

We already have a whole gaggle of tax credits and incentive programs out there, Obama is just piling a few more on.

Its just more legalese for your tax filing software or accountant to sort out by April 15th. If you fit into a certain demographic or you're in the habit of lying on your tax returns, you might get a break.

Let's say you get 10% taken out of every paycheck.

Later on, you get 9.5% taken out of every paycheck.

Get it?

Start here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earned_income_tax_credit

EITC replaced the "welfare" that the right likes to bash like 10 years ago, here's the old "welfare"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporary_Assistance_for_Needy_Families

But don't mind me, feel free to keep trashing a program you don't know anything about.

m2c, how would a rich person get McCain's tax credit? If you know the answer to that, you should be able to figure out the answer to this.

It's funny that people hate the idea of "redistribution of wealth" when at the same time, Bush gives tax cuts to his rich comrades, so they want to vote republican which means McCain, but McCain wants to make the Bush tax cuts permanent, meaning the rich guys still get their tax cuts and middle class gets fucked...

What the fuck are you babbling about? The Bush tax cuts were across-the-board tax cuts.

The middle class is hardly getting fucked, considering that they pay quite a bit less of their income in taxes than they did in the '80s and '90s.

How does the middle class get fucked in that scenario? The Bush tax cuts CUT middle class taxes by a good margin... So, because the rich also got their taxes cut means others are getting fucked? That is terrible/scary logic.

Maybe LoneSnark can jump in for added comedy with his rationalization of money and material worth not being equal to wealth.

"What about the claim, based on Joe the Plumber's complaint, that ordinary working Americans would face higher taxes under Mr. Obama? Well, Mr. Obama proposes raising rates on only the top two income tax brackets — and the second-highest bracket for a head of household starts at an income, after deductions, of $182,400 a year."

--Paul Krugman, New York Slimes columnist, Noble laureate, and noted liberal

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/opinion/20krugman.html?bl

What happened to $250,000 a year?

In any event, many of you probably don't remember this--but I do:

CLINTON'S ECONOMIC PLAN: The Campaign; Gambling That a Tax-Cut Promise Was Not Taken Seriously

Quote :
"In selling his economic plan, President Clinton is gambling that voters never took seriously his campaign promise to lower the tax burden of the middle class and will respond favorably to an aggressive pitch based on equal measures of hope, fear and class revenge."

Quote :
"The first challenge in selling Mr. Clinton's plan to raise taxes on the middle class would seem to be overcoming the voluble history of his many specific promises to the contrary.

As candidate, Mr. Clinton promised to offer tax relief to families with incomes of less than $80,000 a year. He said he would raise taxes on only 'the wealthiest 2 percent,' those with incomes above $200,000 a year, and impose a surtax of 10 percent on those with annual incomes of more than $1 million.

He said that over four years he would squeeze an additional $45 billion out of foreign corporations doing business in the United States. He dismissed as an outrageous falsehood the Republican assertions that his spending programs would mean additional taxes on families making as little as $30,000 a year.

Now, Mr. Clinton proposes to increase income taxes to 36 percent from 31 percent on couples who have taxable income of more than $140,00 a year and on unmarried individuals with taxable income of more than $115,000.

And the 'millionaire's surtax' would be imposed on households with taxable income of more than $250,000 a year. As tax experts predicted, the amount expected to be gained from foreign corporations will be only a few billion dollars."

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9F0CE4D9103CF93BA25751C0A965958260

And when the income level of taxes increased turns out to actually be much lower than $250,000, many of the Obamatose here and elsewhere will say, SO WHAT?! And I'll say, I told you so.

You're joking right.

Wait wait

Let me get this straight

You're for a tax cut in the top earning bracket.

You're against a tax cut in your earning bracket.

Am I missing something here, or did you just get talked into gleefulling punching your own nuts?

It is providing tax credits to everyone across the board. That by definition is a redistribution.

It's not a tax exemption. It is giving people $2,500 to buy health insurance. It is a credit, not an exemption.

Eh, true, it's not a tax exemption. But they aren't giving people $2,500 to buy health insurance. They give it directly to the insurance companies under McCain's plan.

nuts, its ONE set of rules. Everyone is eligible for the credit, seems fair to me. At least a step in the right direction.

Santa, allowing someone to keep more of what they earned is not wealth redistribution. Now taking money from one and giving it to another who didnt earn it..IS.

Im not for raising anyones taxes, but im not selfish enough to think I deserve some of someone elses money.

Guess where the leftover money goes...health savings plans. They are redistributing the wealth to a myriad of individuals at the expense of those who get healthcare through their employer.

How would you be getting someone elses money? Under the Obama plan, I will end up paying less money to the federal government, but I am still paying my taxes. It just means my tax bill is $500 less.

I LOVE HSAs. How are the ones penalized who get it through thier employer? Unless you have a really expensive plan and are in a higher bracket, its just not true.

Nuts, Im all for you and I, and EVERYONE ELSE taking home more of the money they earn. But let me ask you, will more people be getting more money that they didnt earn under Obamas plan than the current one? (with regards to income)

so, you don't have a problem with people getting taxed more because they make more money and have good health insurance, in order to buy health insurance for individuals who don't have the resources, but you do have a problem with taxing people more because they make money.

Your cognitive dissonance is extremely funny.

no, bc they have made a decision to take thier employers costly healthcare plan. They still have a choice.. unlike a raise in income tax. They could choose to buy it on thier own, or get a less expensive plan.. but they do have CHOICES. See the difference?
