I don't know if yall know this but my jeep puked its ax-15 all over the road about 6 months ago.... well now the drivetrain is fucking up again... it makes a loud pop every now and then with a momentary loss of power and a lurch... wtf is it?? transfer case?, rear end? will a u joint do that or is it the slip yoke on my drive shaft (4.5" lift no extension)

crank position sensor, just a guess going off of the momentary loss of power/lurch thing. I've got nothing for you as far as the pop goes.[Edited on October 20, 2008 at 6:27 PM. Reason : .]

no no its not engine power i mean power to the wheelsit feels like something is skipping
10/20/2008 6:40:41 PM
stretched chain in your tcase? i guess check u-joints also.
10/20/2008 7:03:37 PM
will an auto np231 bolt up to a ax15 still??
10/20/2008 7:31:26 PM
i'm pretty sure they have different input gears. you could just get a new chain? that or swap input gears. i do have a spare tcase that i'd sell ya
10/20/2008 7:41:49 PM
shoulda got a bike
10/20/2008 8:36:28 PM
how much for the t-case??
10/20/2008 10:28:44 PM
it already has a sye in it. do you need that?
10/21/2008 12:29:46 AM
i just lost my damn slip yoke/drive shaft on 40 the other dayanyone got one extra theyd sell?
10/21/2008 12:33:09 AM
how much with the sye in it... it couldn't hurt i'll get a cv drive shaft too.is it the good sye (AA style) or the cut/tap the shaft one???if its broke... might as well fix it to better than it was...
10/21/2008 8:47:56 AM
I've been fiddling with it some and i think its the spider gears in one of my diffs... not sure which so i'm going to put it on jack stands and play for a while but the popping goes crazy when i turn...
10/22/2008 11:08:36 AM
ring and pinion look like this
10/22/2008 11:35:28 AM
Ring an pinion are clean the small spider gears are chewed to shit the axle gears aren't in bad shapeAnyone know where i can get a new set of gears for a Chrysler 8.25?
11/1/2008 3:11:17 PM
NOPEBETTER GO TO THE DEALER
11/1/2008 3:16:31 PM
weld
11/1/2008 3:23:04 PM
pull a part dood. you're in charlotte aren't you?
11/1/2008 5:22:33 PM
11/1/2008 6:07:04 PM
yeah all the jeeps they have are 27 spline thought... the thing i wonder is if the two non splined gears are the same on both axles.... but yeah i'm probably going to end up going to the dealer spending a shit ton then selling the piece.
11/1/2008 10:20:59 PM
yes, the side gears should be all the same. the spiders are just broached to the various splines. hell, 1st gen. dakota stuff should be the same as well.
11/1/2008 10:23:05 PM
cool cause its just the side gears that are fucked..Thanks bbr
11/1/2008 10:32:01 PM
summit racing or randys ring and pinion should have a set of spiders with shims and cross shaft for aroun $60-70http://www.ringpinion.com/PartsList.aspx?SearchMode=Diff&TypeID=2&Type=Chrysler&DiffID=7&DiffName=Chrysler+8.25&CatID=4&CatName=Cases+%26+Spider+Gears&CatType=Sub-Differential[Edited on November 2, 2008 at 11:50 AM. Reason : well, closer to $110]
11/2/2008 11:47:34 AM
if you're going to buy new, hit up chase at east coast gear supply. he'll beat anyone else's pricing, plus you're supporting a local vendor.
11/2/2008 3:31:15 PM
if i remember right, you dont have to slide the axles out to get those in and out on those, so you could get a set from a parking lot in about 10 min for $free.99$
11/2/2008 5:55:50 PM
haha no you don't have to pull them out...
11/2/2008 5:58:22 PM
lolz
11/2/2008 6:00:35 PM
nope, just pull the crosspin. which on a chrysler corporate axle is a hit or miss adventure. the stock one on my ram came out with the gas wrench (cutting torch). i've had a few others that were a real pain in the ass, but eventually came out. i'm not sure what causes it. tweaking of the carrier from hard use, heat cycling of all the metal parts, low gear oil level...??
11/2/2008 6:12:24 PM
yeah mine took vise grips of it.
11/2/2008 6:14:17 PM
$50 for a used set from tarheel4wd
