http://mobile.jlaudio.com/products_cleansweep.php?prod_id=388

that is perfect for what i need.

it's $120 though.

it can't be too complicated. anyone know what sort of components i could use to build this?
i was looking here: http://para.maxim-ic.com/en/search.mvp?fam=vid_sw&165=Audio&hs=1

basically, i need three inputs. they need to be able to have priorities over the other devices so things like my GPS and my EMS radio can interrupt my XM tuner/iPod. it needs to do this automatically by detecting signal on the priority inputs. those inputs stay squelched when not active, so i wouldn't think this would be too hard - just voltage change, right?

halp me, tdub. i'm good with circuits, but i can't think of anything that would do all of this... right now i just have all the sources wired in parallel with resistors on each input to keep them from driving each other and some pots that basically just make my "priority" sources much louder than my "secondary" sources... this obviously isn't working too well.

I think the real question is: "Is that $120 going to end up being less than the time + costs of doing it yourself, assuming you can get it to work?"

there is no way this circuit is complex.

and yes, i'd be willing to bet i can do this for MUCH less than $120.

Op amps, NOR gates with appropriate ceilings, RCA jacks, and soldering skillz will do the trick cheaper than $120. As for the quality...questionable.

[Edited on October 10, 2008 at 7:17 PM. Reason : or you could do it ghetto as fuck with a ton of Y-adapters]

[Edited on October 10, 2008 at 7:18 PM. Reason : a 3 position solenoid could be used to select which gets through..]

I would think unless you're only working part time I'm pretty sure that your labor plus the tools plus the materials would be more than the $120 it takes to buy that, plus it's got a hell of a lot nicer packaging around it. I've found a few that do the same thing for cheaper, but all of them only have an A/B switch, nothing over 2 inputs. And they're not cheap enough to buy two and stick them in series to accomplish what you're doing, either.

Here's one,

with Y-connectors everything would go through your speakers at once, so just make your ems radio loud as fuck

does the first one you posted have any sort of prioritizing? sounded to me like it just switched to whichever one thing was on..not sure it'd do if more than one is on
