Every Time I Die is the one band that comes to mind (I feel like they are responsible for this resurgence). Even though they were formed in 1998, they didnt form that sound until like 2002ish.Um, He is Legend's last album and also The Showdown's last album (not backbreaker, the one before that) - although I wasnt a big fan of either. They tried too hard to sound southern and ended up hurting their sounds I think.[Edited on October 8, 2008 at 4:47 PM. Reason : ]

cant agree with any of these reallythat genre has slipped reallyaltho cross canadian ragweed ventured there for awhile but drifted off

^I think Every Time I Die does it perfectly and has formed their own niche and really set themselves apart within the umbrella of this genre/sound. Their last 3 albums have been pretty much straight up (and well done imo) updated version of southern rock. They have spawned a lot of copy cat bands, a lot of which arent that great.[Edited on October 8, 2008 at 4:49 PM. doomriders are so sick that its not even funny.other southern rock/metal includes soilent green, Weedeater (i know one of the guys from this band), DOWN, Sourvein . metalcore is 99 times out of 100 terrible. "oh i know lets put a breakdown in this song" "oh shit that would be sick"I'm walls1441 and i approved this message./]

breakdowns used to be fun when there werent 30 breakdowns on every album I have not been a fan of the trend that has kind of taken over in the last 4 or 5 years or so now where "metalcore" bands have become basically breakdown bands. (yes there were certain bands like this before but it didnt seem as rampant)It used to be fun live to see a band live who had the metal/hardcore hybrid sound and only had a few really fun breakdowns on their entire CD (not even 1 per song). You werent lambasted with breakdown after breakdown to the point of nausea so when one did hit it hit hard and heavy. They also werent the same thing over and over since they didnt write so many and the "breakdowns" werent all just finding a new way to play chugga chugga with a half timed snare, syncopated bass drum, and riding cymbal [Edited on October 8, 2008 at 5:34 PM. yeah. a lot of bands were pretty sick 4-5+ years ago but everytime i've been to the brewery its just been 2 and a half hours of breakdowns and the occasional blast beat for the hell of it.I'm walls1441 and i approved this message.

The Sword? I don't know. Definitely ETID.Also, I always lump a lot of stoner rock bands in with souther rock.
