white ebony female chinchilla. born 6/27/08. Handled daily since birth. Very friendly. Gorgeous! This is a rare color mutation. Her mother is a pink white and father is an extra dark (homozygous) ebony. Both parents are in perfect health, have great temperaments and no vices. Her parents are both from reputable breeders.

Chinchillas have specific husbandry needs and I will be selective in who adopts her.
Adoption fee is $150.

Instead of adoption (which sounds free) maybe the title should be "Young Chincilla for Sale!" Not trying to give you a hard time, but usually adoption indicates a pet that can't be cared for and needs a new home, not a pet that has been bred and is available for purchase.

I do rescue A LOT of animals (dogs and small animals) but she is from a breeding pair. I just started breeding chinchillas after doing a lot of research. I only have two breeding pairs. I do have two rescue chins as well but they're only pets and will never be bred (I do not know their history).

Chinchilla's in petstores cost between $150-$200, almost always have issues (health problems, malocclusion, spraying, fur chewing and just temperament problems) due to being mishandled and their genetics.
Not that I should have to justify myself but I do spend thousands of dollars on my rescues and classroom animals (educational animals) every year. I'm not breeding chinchillas to make a profit (very few people do), I simply love the species and really enjoy keeping them. I think that someone serious about getting a chinchilla would rather get one from a small hobby breeder such as myself who has taken the time to properly socialize the animal and can ensure a healthy friendly animal rather than take their chances at a petstore.

A white ebony kit such as this would cost $250+ from most breeders. I've had offers from other breeders but she would have been kept in a breeding run and received no attention (not what I want for her).

I wasn't trying to give you a lot of shit. I have seen you giving away or helping to adopt pets before. Just thought the title was unclear. I knew how much these furry little bastards run and that it wasn't a bad price, and with you having a baby and lots of other mouths to feed it will be going to a good cause. I really just thought from the title that you were giving up some animals that you couldn't take care of while being a mom and working and all.

Things are a bit easier since my foster pups went to their new home last week.
I'm committed to my animals and make time for them. I only have my 3 dogs and the chinchillas at the house so it's not that much. My students care for the classroom pets.

I'm not 100% sure I even want to give up this chinchilla. I've gotten attached to her. I had her out for about an hour tonight when my daughter was napping. She is content to sit on my shoulder. Extremely calm and sweet temperament.

I do have a tan male kit that was born on 9/7. He'll be available in 8-10 weeks.
