just a place where we can all chat about our offense not putting any points on the board despite our defense keeping us in the game for three quarters.talk amongst yourselves.

Well you need an OLine and receivers that are competent enough to get open.
9/13/2008 3:16:03 PM
neither of those were the problem today.

i was struggling to make the title fit. i think that's a legit thing to type though, isn't it?
9/13/2008 3:45:10 PM
reminds me of Mario/Manny final yearswe'd've'ben a VERY good team those years if we had a QB worth a damn
9/13/2008 3:49:21 PM
i'm not putting it all on qb play, i'm just saying we need to do something to not be so predictable. if that means more turnovers, then sobeit, b/c we're not doing anything w/ our possessions as is except delaying.
9/13/2008 3:51:08 PM
When was the last time we scored an offensive touchdown against a real team?Have to go back pretty far, thats fucking sad.
9/13/2008 3:52:19 PM
We shouldn't have bothered to field a team this year.
9/13/2008 3:54:20 PM
^^ 3rd quarter of the Wake Forest game last year. That's 13 quarters against real teams with no offensive touchdowns.
9/13/2008 3:55:21 PM
we wouldn't have been in the game if the offense didn't produce a few sustained drives like they did. It would have been just like South Carolina.and our 3 best potential playmakers on offense are all injured.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 3:58 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2008 3:57:54 PM
walp, the point of the offense isn't to sustain possession so that your defense doesn't get worn out and you don't get run truck on. the point is to score points.i agree that we did a better job of not getting blown out, but as long as we only put up three offensive points, that's all we're going to do.this is really more just talking for the sake of talking mind you, i'm not looking for any personnel changes or anything.
9/13/2008 4:00:17 PM
that's the best contraction everi think it works
9/13/2008 4:03:23 PM
it's a shitty situation... i'm hoping the return of Eugene and Hill will help set a fire under the offense.
9/13/2008 4:03:48 PM
yeah and it doesn't matter anyway, it isn't just the offense the team is terrible top to bottom, left to right. terrible special teams play, poor tackling, the offensive line, u name it none of it is any good.
9/13/2008 4:03:58 PM
^^ sorry but eugene would not have made a big difference in this game. Brown and Underwood basically ran at will today when we gave them the ball. I still can't figure out why we didnt just keep pounding the ball until they stopped us.
9/13/2008 4:10:49 PM
^ we did, and they did stop us.^^ we had some bad tackling, but all it would've taken was two touchdowns from the offense to keep us in that game. that's not asking a lot.
9/13/2008 4:25:52 PM
our special teams are god awful. How do we have a punt go less than 20 yards?SERIOUSLY?
9/13/2008 7:46:42 PM
This team is absolutely devoid of playmakers. The only game breaker on the team is TJ Graham, and he still doesn't know what he's doing out there.Damn we need a Jakoby Ford or however the hell you spell his name.
9/13/2008 8:01:38 PM
^ ding ding ding!!!
9/13/2008 8:05:39 PM
9/13/2008 8:10:28 PM
at this rate are we even going to beat duke?
9/13/2008 8:10:47 PM
nope, and ecu and unc will beat us tooIT will create a black hole in raleigh and NC state will not exist
9/13/2008 8:12:07 PM
^^^ lolwut??
9/13/2008 8:13:42 PM
why couldnt that large hadron collider have just ended it all
9/13/2008 8:15:02 PM
^^you dont think he would have?If he was completely healthy like that game against FSU he would have gotten a shitton of yards against clemson.
9/13/2008 8:19:37 PM
i'm just wondering what that has to do w/ contractions, or were those two statements totally independent?and i do disagree, now that you mention it. i don't think he would've done much more than he did today if he was "100%".[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 8:25 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2008 8:24:36 PM
^x6 I don't understand how losing to Clemson makes it likely for us to lose to Duke. You do realize we were 18.5 point underdogs in this game, right?I don't understand the sentiment by some that it was somehow surprising that we got outplayed by a more talented team.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 8:27 PM. Reason : second part]
9/13/2008 8:26:28 PM
we were tied w/ turnovers (and one was a bomb at the end of the game that was inconsequential) and had six more minutes of posession time, yet scored three points.that's not a bad sign to you? you expect to beat anyone w/ an offense so monumentally incompetant?
9/13/2008 8:30:09 PM
ill go ahead and call a loss to dukeor agree on the call of a loss to duke, since someone else said it first[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 8:31 PM. Reason : ]
9/13/2008 8:31:30 PM
Our offense is not good, I'm not going to say it is, but it's not like we didn't get any yards. We got almost 300 yards, but you have to look at our garbage field position all game. We started one drive the whole game outside of our own 29. A weak offense is always going to struggle in situations where it has to sustain very long drives.I don't think we're a great team, but we're mediocre and so is a lot of the ACC.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 8:42 PM. Reason : too much credit for the ACC]
9/13/2008 8:40:02 PM
there was one of those third down conversions that andre converted in the middle of the field and he made a cut away from the safety back towards the middle of the field and I think the favored foot and the weight gain caused him to be less explosive.
9/13/2008 8:42:30 PM
^^ no mediocre team has an offense that puts up only three points in an entire football game. end of story. i don't care what the field position is.
9/13/2008 8:47:33 PM
We missed a 28 yard field goal, we dropped an easy TD catch late in the game. Mediocre offenses get mediocre yardage. 288 yards rarely ever produces only 3 points.Maryland had less than 30 yards more than us this week and their offense put up 35 points. The difference? Field position. Their scoring drives started on:Their 40Cal's 14Their 40Their 35Cal 39[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 9:13 PM. Reason : further explanation]
9/13/2008 9:07:54 PM
it's not like this came out of nowhere. we saw the same production out of our only other d1a game this season.you're flat out wrong if you argue that we have a mediocre offense. EVEN IF we made both of those, that's 13 points. that's still not very many, although it is more than the three that we actually got.we are a terrible offense, there's just no way you can swing it otherwise.]
9/13/2008 9:15:15 PM
Our offense did nothing against SC's defense with Daniel Evans primarily as QB. He also managed 12 yards against William and Mary. Any Evans influenced offensive performances I take with a grain of salt.edit: I don't expect to change your mind in all of this, I just want to see more before I decide we're horrible.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 9:18 PM. it's not like wilson was doing well before he went out. he was doing exactly what we did today.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 9:25 PM. Reason : i mean, w/e. wilson's what we have right now... but that doesn't make him good.]

so, what happened in this game? quick summary
9/13/2008 10:22:58 PM
quick summary: our defense is surprisingly solid again, our offense is a remarkable failure.
9/13/2008 10:24:56 PM
turnovers? just didnt move the ball at all?shutdown Spiller and Davis?
9/13/2008 10:36:13 PM
turnovers were 2-2 and we had six minutes more possession. we moved the ball some, but just couldn't score. got in the redzone twice, one time we made a field goal and one time we missed one.we're totally one dimensional, makes redzone defense relatively easy.spiller and davis had less than 100 yards rushing combined.[Edited on September 13, 2008 at 10:38 PM. Reason : .]
9/13/2008 10:38:25 PM
^^We ran the ball well all game but Russell Wilson wasn't really seeing the field very well. He threw the ball away too much/didn't try and work the ball downfield at all. Our longest passes tended to be passes to Andre Brown over the middle where he did a lot of the work. We had one "real" turnover which was disappointing because honestly Russell had a ton of time on that particular throw. The other turnover was Beck throwing the ball up and praying right at the end of the game.I'm not as hating on our offense, I think we did an ok job of moving the ball but we didn't sustain drives which killed us. Nate Irving was again ridiculous, almost had 2 INTs this game. Seconday was kind of suspect and we had a really hard time stopping Spiller and Ford. Davis was weak though.
