Is there a way to re-"determine gapless playback information"

if i'm in a rush and i'm just copying stuff to put on itunes and my ipod i occasionally click it off then 2 days later realize its really aggravating for an intentionally seamless cd to have breaks in it.

It works great for moving crap into the library as well as moving a library. For example, if you want to move the library from your comp's HD to an external HD. Just define a new library path in the options and then hit 'consolidate'. It moves everything nicely.

another itunes question, how do i get rid of duplicates! some of them don't even have a physical file anymore!

^yeh, Itunes won't do that.

I think there's an option to not show duplicates, but it's never worked for me.

if you want to get rid listings without files, you could move all your mp3s to another folder, delete everything in your library (in iTunes), then reimport all your files.

if you have duplicated files, can use something like

if you don't have too many duplicates, you can go to File > Show Duplicates, and it will show duplicated songs (if the ID3 tags match), and you can delete the duplicated ones

Is there a way in iTunes to disable it auto-selecting whatever device you just plugged in? i.e. iPhone

Lets say I have a playlist selected that I'm listening to. As soon as I dock my iPhone it switches the selected view to the iPhone which is annoying because I take my phone with me everytime I leave my desk at work then dock it back when I'm at my desk and it switches my playlist so my keyboard shortcut keys don't know which song from which playlist to stop/play.

^if you can name one other product that offers everything iTunes does all in the same package then by all means prove us wrong.

yes there are a lot of things with iTunes that really suck but then again every music player out there has something we'd all like to see different. There isn't one perfect music player...that being said...all that iTunes has to offer (that i take full advantage of) makes it far better to put up with then any other similar software.

iTunes really does suck in many ways. However, it is the only music player that will actually play most (at least 90%) of my music, offers abilities to move libraries easily, purchase music easily, and sync with an iPod seamlessly.

Anyone know why half the time i import a folder of MP3s into iTunes, it imports doubles of each track? song.mp3 and song 1.mp3?

edit: in edit->preferences, on the advanced tab, do you have either "keep itunes music folder organized" or "copy files to itunes music folder when adding to library" checked? I don't.

^^two things that could be wrong at the same time

1) your music that you are importing is already in the folder where your music imports to
2) you have the option to copy your music on import to the location where your music imports to
3) it sees its already there and creates a new copy of it

also going with the duplicates:

if you import songs & they have to be converted, iTunes makes a new file & puts it into the iTunes folder. If you do this multiple times, iTunes makes multiple copies of the same song & they all end up in your iTunes as well as wasting HD space.

^at a quick glance it looks just like iTunes minus all that is great about iTunes.

iTunes runs on Mac and PC
iTunes does have DRM free content but that's not up to iTunes/Apple to decide which is DRM free and which has DRM. Thank the IRAA for that. So again you have brought nothing to the table to convince us you found the 'perfect'/best music player.

edit: seriously though, have you even tried it? From a Windows user pov, I think it's loads faster doing pretty much anything, I dunno. It even has Ipod integration, but I don't really care considering I don't have an Ipod and don't acquire my music from the Apple store.

I don't have the music already.

Yes, i use "keep music organized". So the originals for example stay on my desktop and a copy is made into my iTunes directory structure. What i'm referring to is when sometimes it'll make two copies in my itunes structure. 'song.mp3' and 'song 1.mp3' of each song. it happens a good..30% of the time. Often enough i automatically check and delete the second of each track when it happens.

^^^sounds like iTunes is converting files, as that's iTunes naming convention when renaming files that already exist. Are you importing any wma's? I know iTunes converts those and places the new file in your iTunes music folder, and will name them like that when a file by the same name exists.

^yeh it does.. but the files are all original mp3s.. and the original versions play fine.

strangely, it also happened on my old PC as well. and it happens just the same on my new mac. could it be user error?

I have a folder on my desktop with 10 mp3s.

Itunes:File-Add to Library. browse. select folder. Add. *shrug*

Next time it happens i'll carefully check the two copies for differences.

hmmmm. I don't know why it would double your mp3's. I'd just keep playing around with it, a few files at a time.
